Richard Cohen: Romney, Trump and the birtherism nonsense (It's RACIST! says Richard)
The Washington Post's Post Partisan ^ | May 30, 2012 | Richard Cohen

The classic definition of chutzpah is the child who kills his parents and throws himself on the mercy of the court as an orphan. The classic definition when it comes to politics is for the Obama campaign to demand that Mitt Romney disassociate himself from the loathsome Donald Trump when it took Barack Obama oh-so-long to kiss off the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Do two wrongs make a Wright?

Having punned egregiously, I know I must hasten to add that Trump’s insistence that Obama’s place of birth remains an open question is both revolting and dopey. He has kept at this so long that it is no longer possible to question his sincerity, just his intelligence. He ought to know that the so-called birthers exude the fetid aroma of racism: To them, the oddly named Obama just doesn’t look like a president should.

Romney is exhibiting his characteristic cowardice in not slapping down Trump and walking away from his money. His face shows that he doesn’t much like the Donald or his approach, but the presumptive GOP nominee understands that there are two principles involved: The first would require him to do the decent thing; the second is to appreciate that one you start rejecting campaign donations on the basis of principle, it could be impossible to stop — slippery slope and all of that.

But the Obama people ought to feel a twinge of sympathy. They insisted for the longest time that Wright’s explosive and revolting rhetoric had nothing to do with Obama. But the rhetoric was ugly, and the man making it was not a mere preacher but the presidential candidate’s designated spiritual adviser....

I got quite a kick out of Wolf Blitzer's recent interview with Trump. With artistic license, I summarize:

Trump: Thanks for having me on the show. I'm always happy to talk about jobs and the economy.
Wolf: Hey, about this birth certificate ... don't you feel like a loon?
Trump: No. It's a valid topic. But let's talk about jobs and the economy.
Wolf: If I could just get a word in edgewise, I really think you're making a mistake by being so incessant on the birther nonsense.
Trump: I'm not even bringing it up. Obama is the one who claimed in 1991 that he was born in Kenya. But I thought you wanted to talk about jobs?
Wolf: And another thing about this birth certificate ...

“....Trump’s insistence that Obama’s place of birth remains an open question....”

.
Obama’s place of birth is irrelevant when his pappy was NEVER a US citizen. It is claimed that Trump is very intelligent but, in this case, he shows very little of it.

Is Trump trying to blow smoke up the American people’s a$$e$ and is he perhaps a democrap Trojan Horse?

Would some of the adults in Mr. Cohen’s community please advise him that his anti-white nonsense is out of date.

Let’s wait until Sheriff Joe Arpaio releases his latest report before we say smoke is being blown.

As for Richard Cohen, anyone who brings up the race card shows the level of intellect they use in making conclusions. Not good for Richard Cohen.

If being AGAINST Barry Soetoro is racist, I PROUDLY WEAR THE TITLE! Pass me the sheet and hood!

If being AGAINST homosexual marriage makes me a homophobe, I PROUDLY WEAR THE TITLE! Pass me the dart board with Rachel Maddow's face on it!

If being FOR the Tea Party makes me a patriot, PRAISE THE LORD AND PASS THE AMMUNITION!

I agree and I am with you.

When people say I don't like Obama because he is black I tell them “ I don't like Obama because he is an incompetant Marxist who is ruining the nation. The fact that he is black is just a bonus!” F-em if hating Obama is racist I don't want to not be racist.

“Revolting and dopey,” but true, at least so much as the birth certificate is a fraud, and Richard would know that, if he was anything more than a media whore. As I read the attacks on birthers, one fact stands out. If the roles were reversed, and a Republican had Obama’s shady and obfuscated past, the media whores would be howling. When Clinton’s brother said Billy’s nose was a coke vacuum, the media whores ignored it. When there was a hint that George W sniffed a snort, the media whores and all the Bush haters crawled out of the woodwork like diseased cockroaches spreading their filth. Now the media whores have one of their very own pimps, a black pimp, a gay pimp, a poverty pimp that shames the rest, and they don’t care if he spent half his do-nothing life stoned out of his gourd, maybe more than half, ...maybe it is still ongoing. No telling how much coke, THC, LSD, meth and glue have boggled his brain cells. For certain the media whores aren’t telling or looking to find out. So excuse me if I laugh at the hypocrisy when media whores start calling other people names for doing the job reporters would do, if they weren’t media whores.

Why should Romney slap down Trump? He's entitled to his opinion. The whole birth certificate issue resurfaced because obama's own biography recently came to light. Why isn't Cohen calling the publisher a racist for printing that obama was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia? These so-called journalists should be questioning obama. After all, the opening sentence of the bio description is pretty specific. How stupid are these media people if they actually believe it was a mistake? Really?

Cohen’s not the sharpest crayon in the box - bringing this up just as the HDOH issued a “verification” that actually indirectly confirms that Obama’s birth record is not legally valid. Here’s how we know, copied from my latest post on my blog, after a comment by Graeuwolf here at FR triggered a thought in my mind (Thanks, Graeuwoulf!):

Bennett told TheCipher (a Freeper) he DID ask for the birth date – which was only on the request form, so he must not have withdrawn the form request. If that’s the case, then this verification is the official response to that form.

The “verification” references HRS 338-14.3 and calls itself a “verification of birth”. HRS 338-14.3 says, in part:

“(a) Subject to the requirements of section 338-18, the department of health, upon request, shall furnish to any applicant, in lieu of the issuance of a certified copy, a verification of the existence of a certificate and any other information that the applicant provides to be verified relating to the vital event that pertains to the certificate.

(b) A verification shall be considered for all purposes certification that the vital event did occur and that the facts of the event are as stated by the applicant.”

By responding at all the HDOH acknowledged Bennett’s eligibility to receive a verification. By referencing HRS 338-14.3 they are acknowledging that what they disclose is governed by that. They are REQUIRED to verify the existence of a certificate, and they did that. They did not claim that the place of birth was Honolulu, HI – only that the birth certificate “indicates” (not verifies) a Honolulu, HI birth.

The procedure for verifying the facts of birth is that the person applying for a verification gives the facts in question and the HDOH repeats back to them anything that they got right and verifies that it is correct. Anything they don’t verify as correct is not correct – either because there is something else in that field on the birth record, or because the facts about the birth cannot be certified as accurate (because the certificate is not legally valid).

When filling out that form, Bennett presumably gave the HDOH the following guesses for facts:

Gender: male
Date of birth: Aug 4, 1961
City and island of birth: Honolulu, HI/ Oahu
Father’s name: Barack Hussein Obama
Mother’s name: Stanley Ann (Dunham) Obama

The HDOH did not verify any of those facts, so they are either not what is claimed on the BC or the BC they’re on is not a legally valid record.

But the HDOH verified that the information on Obama’s posted long-form matches the information on the original record. So that can’t be the reason.

That leaves a legally non-valid record as the only reason for their refusal to verify those “facts of birth”.

This “verification” – if it legally verifies anything, given the initials by the certification on it – actually verifies that Obama’s birth record is not legally valid.

That being the case, the other items to be verified “from the record” are clearly being verified only as being ON that record – not being the true facts of his birth. If they couldn’t verify the true date and place of birth or parents’ names because the record was legally invalid, then they can’t verify ANYTHING from that BC as being true. All they can verify is what is on it, not that what is on it is true. Which is actually what is implied in the certifying statement.

Again – if the HDOH has verified anything with this “verification”, it is that Obama’s birth record is legally non-valid.

What’s worse, not being sure about the person privy to all the secrets of this country, with his hand on the levers of power OR offending a large segment of the population over a matter of seeking the truth and exercising and possibly protecting one’s most basic rights?
