Coulter vs Darwin
Godless | 06/06 | Ann Coulter

Posted on 06/09/2006 6:16:57 AM PDT by tomzz

You can't help but notice that there is a very vocal sort of a little clique of evolutionists on FreeRepublic, and there has always been a question in a lot of people's minds as to whether or not the theory of evolution is in any way compatible with conservatism.

This new book ("Godless") of Ann Coulter's should pretty much settle the issue.

Ann does not mince words, and she has quite a lot to say about evolution:

"Liberals' creation myth is Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, which is about one notch above scientology in scientific rigor. It's a make-believe story, based on a theory which is a tautology, with no proof in the scientists laboratory or the fossil record, and that's after 150 years of very determined looking. We wouldn't still be talking about it but for the fact that liberals think evolution disproves God....

It gets better from there, in fact a lot better. Ann provides a context for viewing the liberal efforts to shut down everything resembling debate on the subject in courtrooms and makes a general case that it is the left and not the right, which is antithetical to science in general. Anybody interested in this question of American society and the so-called theory of evolution should have a copy of this book

When I was younger I shared a lot of their puerile and petty hatreds and animosities, so I know this mindset well.

Ahh, some things never change!

Some things never change, yes. Some do, though.

Some people never learn from life, some people do.

The defenders of neo-Darwinism on FR vex me only in that they often cannot distinguish between the perfectly proper attack on the logically and philosophically invalid use of evolutionary biology as a prop for an atheistic secularist world-view and an attack on the validity of evolutionary biology as a scientific theory, and similarly cannot distinguish between the criticism of the polemical defense of neo-Darwinism mounted by atheistic secularists and criticism of the scientific theory. Their politics and its relation to their views on science are not problematic at all as your post would suggest.

I agree, somewhat. I'm afraid you're right that the anti-evolutionists do not distinguish between the two. However, many of us do agree that "conclusions" based upon evolutionary theory that include atheism and moral relativism are invalid. I have stated this many times in these debates--you can't logically draw philosophical and moral conclusions from an observation of the material world. But as long as the anti-evolutionists fail to distinguish between the science and the invalid philosophical conclusions and persist in attacking the first when they ought to be attacking the second, it's to no avail.

Jim Robinson has been way more undulgent and let these people be parasites for a long time.

Jim tolerates the "parasites" of evolution in the same way he tolerates those who read Genesis like a history book.

Anyone who reads Scripture literally has no understanding of the Bible.

Al, the problem you have and why you are so mad is that you are one of the people Coulter is describing.

Discuss the issues all you want but do not make it personal.

I am mad because I see people who are not conservatives here wasting their time convoluting science with anti-religion.

It does not serve science well to do this.

I also enerally get mad when I see stupid and ignorant people trying to bully others.

I am mad to see people waste their potential in this self-limiting liberal world view.

Ann Coulter, from the same book....

"No science is ever frightening to Christians. Religious people don't need the science to come out any particular way on IQ or AIDS or sex differences any more than they need the science to come out any particular way on evolution...If evolution is true, then God created evolution." --

*Brother, don't be so quick to criticise. As for you accusing Coulter of betraying a staggering ignorance..Let me ask you how much of her book have you read so far?

What Coulter has settled is that we all now know she's a hard core Creationist. She just recycled the same stuff that's been posted on FR by Creationists for years. Maybe they should request a share of her royalties.

"Actually, evolution is a creation myth only for Conservatives."

Oh, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that all the pro-evolution/pro-science folks who post on the "Crevo" threads here at Free Republic are conservatives. I know "I" am.

Make that "some" Conservatives, and you'll be right.

Brother, I think youforgot to read..Humani Generis literally.

Just as in the biological and anthropological sciences, so also in the historical sciences there are those who boldly transgress the limits and safeguards established by the Church. In a particular way must be deplored a certain too free interpretation of the historical books of the Old Testament. Those who favor this system, in order to defend their cause, wrongly refer to the Letter which was sent not long ago to the Archbishop of Paris by the Pontifical Commission on Biblical Studies. This letter, in fact, clearly points out that the first eleven chapters of Genesis, although properly speaking not conforming to the historical method used by the best Greek and Latin writers or by competent authors of our time, do nevertheless pertain to history in a true sense, which however must be further studied and determined by exegetes; the same chapters, (the Letter points out), in simple and metaphorical language adapted to the mentality of a people but little cultured, both state the principal truths which are fundamental for our salvation, and also give a popular description of the origin of the human race and the chosen people.

* I could point out to you instances where you have quoted Holy Writ and intended it to be taken literally.

She's probably just learned from her good buddy Bill Maher that if you say anything stupid or outrageous, for every one person who calls you out, there will be five who defend you and take you seriously and another five who are in on the joke and laugh along with you.
