Juan Manuel Alvarez, man who caused yesterday's multiple train derailment, is a U.S. citizen
Inland Valley Daily Bulletin ^ | 1/27/05 | Troy Anderson, Staff Writer

Alvarez's estranged wife said he threatened her and her family and threatened to abduct their 3-year-old son, although he never physically assaulted her, according to a request for a temporary restraining order that was granted Dec. 14, The Associated Press reported.

"He threatened to take our kid away and to hurt my family members," Carmelita Alvarez said. "He is planning on selling his vehicle to buy a gun and threatened to use it. He is using drugs and has been in and out of rehab twice."

[SNIP]

Alvarez, a U.S. citizen, watched as the train barreled into his SUV shortly after 6 a.m.

"He was found right at the scene," [Glendale Police Chief Randy] Adams said. "The suspect has admitted placing his vehicle on the tracks."

[SNIP]

U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Thom Mrozek said there is potential federal jurisdiction with a possible death penalty in the case.

Terre Haute has the Federal Death Chamber. If he is convicted on federal charges, then he'll end up here.

This thread is now going to turn into a FReeper contest to see who can show the most indignation and political correctness.

I have no doubt the usual Leftist suspects in Hollyweird and elsewhere in California will champion this dude's cause. Heck, he and his wife were living in a converted garage, so I'm sure even the poverty pimps will be all over this story in due course.

Seems a little "Thou protesteth too much" to me. Comments?

Yeah, here's my comment: read Hamlet again, but this time, pay a little more attention.

I'll bet this is one of the most mis-quoted lines in all literature, outside of the Bible.

Doesn't matter. He's still retarded, and needs to be put out of our misery.

I guess Congressman Jindal, AG designee Gonzales, Dr. Rice, Jeb Bush's wife and children, and assorted other Americans are now invited to leave the country.

It would seem so. They don't "look like" American citizens. Sheesh!

Mexico has a particularly low suicide rate; and, an illegal who has the get up and go to come here for work would be less likely to attempt this act. Generalizations, I know, but just my 2 cents...

AFAIK, he doesn't have any days where he sounds mentally stable anymore. Unfortunately, he has a huge audience who believes his misinformed crap, like unreservedly declaring that Alvarez was an illegal. I still listen to Savage once in awhile out of morbid curiosity, sorta like feeling compelled to gawk at an accident. I'm going to listen today just to see if he gives a retraction. Wonder what the over/under is for that happening.

Personally, I hope he does end up there. California will never execute this guy.

Well, we know the Mexican government won't be sticking up for him then. If he's not sending money across the border, they don't have any use for him!

Does that count.

Sure. And I'm not really going to ping everyone who jumped to the conclusion that this perp was an illegal. Was just being a little sarcastic.
