BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. (AP) — Part of an ancient Michigan cave where “The Great Train Robbery” was filmed has collapsed under heavy rain. A wall of Bear Cave in Buchanan collapsed this week, Adam Morris, the property manager at a campground that operates near the cave, told MLive.com. The wall collapsed at night and was already closed to the public due to flooding, Morris said. He didn't clarify what night the collapse happened. The cave will remain closed pending an inspection, Morris said. It was unclear how soon the inspection might take place. Storms on July 9, 10 and 15...

Summer has a reputation for prolific rainfall totals in a short amount of time, and because of that, it's when many states have recorded their most extreme 24-hour rainfall records. Records for 24-hour rainfall in the United States range from less than 6 inches to more than 4 feet. Those amounts for each state are shown in the map below, which uses data compiled by NOAA's Centers for Environmental Information. The record for Kansas is under review by the State Climate Extremes Committee since the previously posted biggest total of 13.53 inches was found to be

Scientists have discovered that days are growing slightly longer due to melting polar ice. As water moves away from the poles and towards lower latitudes, it changes the continental mass distribution on Earth, ultimately affecting our planet’s rotation.
  • Have the climate change promoters ever used the actual scientific method?

So I was thinking recently about how the man-made climate change promoters discuss the topic like a proven fact on the scientific level. I then remembered what the scientific method involves: 1. Ask a Question 2. Do Background Research 3. Construct a Hypothesis 4. Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment 5. Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion 6. Communicate Your Results Notice step 4: "Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment" Has this ever been done? Every time I see this topic pushed around as fact, I never ever hear about tests on any scale being done to...

CHICAGO — Officials from the National Weather Service (NWS) have confirmed that five tornadoes touched down in Chicagoland, including one in the City of Chicago, as a round of intense evening storms swept through the region on Monday. Officials from the Chicago NWS said in a post on X on Tuesday afternoon that three EF-1 tornadoes and two EF-0 tornadoes touched down across parts of Chicagoland. Officials said one of those tornados, an EF-1, hit the ground on the near West Side of Chicago to the far western portions of the Loop.

As a cold front gains momentum, severe thunderstorms, many packing high wind gusts, will erupt and roll from the eastern Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and middle Mississippi Valley to the Appalachians and Atlantic Seaboard into Wednesday and beyond in some cases, AccuWeather meteorologists warn. The storms can trigger regional power outages and lead to major travel delays as they approach and pass through the major metro areas. Tree and property damage will be likely in some communities. In recent days, severe storms have packed quite a wallop in the Midwest and part of the interior Northeast. During Monday night alone,...

Scientists have looked back in time to reconstruct the past life of Antarctica’s “Doomsday Glacier” — nicknamed because its collapse could cause catastrophic sea level rise. They have discovered it started retreating rapidly in the 1940s, according to a new study that provides an alarming insight into future melting. The Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica is the world’s widest and roughly the size of Florida. Scientists knew it had been losing ice at an accelerating rate since the 1970s, but because satellite data only goes back a few decades, they didn’t know exactly when significant melting began. Now there is...
  • Beryl sets off alarm bells among hurricane experts

This year, hurricane season has taken off with a ferocious, ominous start thanks to Beryl—the earliest Category 5 hurricane ever recorded, with winds topping out at 165 mph. Beryl bulldozed the Caribbean, made its way through Mexico and then plowed into Texas. As of the time of publication, over 2.1 million Texans are without power, just as a severe heat wave descends on the region. The increasing severity of hurricanes acutely stresses power grids like those in Texas, which could adversely affect everything from homes to health care facilities. It could cost a city "billions of dollars to recover from...

The first hurricane of 2024, Hurricane Beyrl, is now in the books. Beryl reminded us that hurricanes are a powerful force of nature – a force that causes much fear and anxiety. The stronger and more destructive the hurricane, the deeper it becomes ingrained in our collective consciousness. Katrina, Andrew, Sandy, Harvey – hurricane names that will forever be associated with destruction and death. Sadly, as with most destructive weather events, these events quickly become fodder for climate extremists to tie our fear of these events to “climate change” or more specifically, “man-made climate change.” Beryl is no exception, “Is...

At least one person is dead after central Vermont was pummeled by severe flooding. The remnants of Hurricane Beryl, which made landfall in Texas Monday, unleashed torrential rain across the Northeast. Between two and six inches of rain fell, leaving some communities fighting against surging floodwaters. Flood rapids wreaked havoc, prompting road closures and causing widespread damage. Plainfield officials say at least seven bridges were taken out. Residents of a six-unit apartment building had just 15 minutes to evacuate before the entire structure was swept away. One person died in the Peacham community, according to Vermont Governor Phil Scott.

The city of Palm Springs, California, recorded a high temperature of 124 degrees Fahrenheit (51 degrees Celsius) on Friday, breaking the record of 123 degrees, which was last reached in 2021. The high temperatures are the result of a heat wave that has gripped much of the state, away from the coastline. The San Francisco Chronicle reported: Palm Springs broke an all-time daily temperature record Friday when the official weather station at the airport registered a high of 124 degrees. This breaks the previous record of 123 degrees, which was most recently tied in June 2021. The temperature is one...
  • Southern Australia is freezing. How can it be so cold in a warming climate?

People living in southern Australia won’t have failed to notice how cold it is. Frosty nights and chilly days have been the weather for many of us since the start of July. As winter continues, we are left wondering how unusual the cold is and whether we can expect several more months of this. Warmer conditions are in the forecast but winter has a long way to go. Further cold snaps could occur. Cold conditions have been in place across southern Australia for the past few days. Temperatures have fallen below zero overnight in many places.

While the summertime is quite hot across the interior of the western United States in the valleys, basins and deserts, the heat will soon go above and beyond what is typical. AccuWeather meteorologists continue to warn of dangerous heat that will build through at least the first weekend of July over the interior Southwest and into mid-July over the interior West. "Extreme temperatures will crescendo into the weekend as a northward bulge in the jet stream strengthens over the region," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Heather Zehr said. "At its peak, afternoon high temperatures will be around 20 degrees above average in...

Hurricane Beryl has wreaked havoc in parts of the Caribbean – and put the role of climate change under the spotlight. With maximum sustained wind speeds of more than 160mph (257km/h), it became the earliest category five Atlantic hurricane in records going back around 100 years. In fact, there has only been one previous recorded case of a category five Atlantic hurricane in July – Hurricane Emily, on 16 July 2005. The causes of individual storms are complex, making it difficult to fully attribute specific cases to climate change. But exceptionally high sea surface temperatures are seen as a key...

Hurricane Beryl is expected to bring life-threatening winds and storm surge to Jamaica Wednesday, after the Category 4 storm ripped across islands in the southeast Caribbean, killing at least six people. According to the latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center, Beryl has lost some intensity but is still expected to be near major-hurricane strength when it passes near or over Jamaica at midday before taking aim at the Cayman Islands and Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. The storm — with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph — is currently located about 75 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, moving west-northwest at 18...

Image: NASA =============================================================== Hurricane Beryl was upgraded to a Category 5 storm earlier today, making it the earliest storm to hit the heavy-hitting benchmark on record. The storm’s winds peaked at a staggering 160 miles per hour (258 km/hr) as it continued its northwesterly course across the Caribbean. Philip Klotzbach, a meteorologist at Colorado State University, stated on X that the previous record-holder was Hurricane Emily, which hit Category 5 status on July 17, 2005. According to...
