Don't say we didn't warn you! Spoilers are what this thread is all about. So bring your rumors (substantiated or not!), spoilers, spy reports, and bones of contention about them here as the snippets of RoTK news, photos and interviews come rolling in.
I wouldn't even recommend pinging people to this thread unless you know they want to see them. There are a lot of purists out there that hate to have anything given away before the movie comes out. I, however, am not one of those.
I will start a "RoTK spoilers ping list" separate from the other Tolkien ping lists so let me know if you want to be on the spoiler alert list!" If we use this thread for that kind of stuff, we won't shock people who don't want to see it. (though I bet they look anyway!)
Report 'em if you got 'em!
One tip
.. Don't embed images from TORN (TheOneRing.Net) on this thread. If possible, load the image to another server, or just post a link to the TORN page. TORN's servers are powered by fleas I think, and are horrendously slow, particularly when they have something that is particularly good!

Q: In the appendixes of LOTR, Tolkien clearly mentions that Gandalf is a bearer of one the 3 Elven rings by the time the Fellowship are on their journey to Mordor. However, on closer inspection, I didn't see any ring on any of Gandalf's fingers. Is this ring just not mentioned yet, or is it a detail that was left out?
A: By the end of the story, Gandalf will be wearing the ring, although it is not, I think, mentioned in the dialogue of the screenplay.
"I got to see some footage of ROTK, actually it was an actual scene. The scene consisted of a King who as fallen in battle and his nephew who is his last true heir gives a lament to his fallen Uncle. Very emotional scene. I was almost driven to tears, I would haved cried if the scene had been scored. That won't happen untill sometime in September. BTW, if I have to actually tell you the names of the characteres invloved in this scene, then you are NOT a LOTR fan.
I did get to go Thursday and watch some pick-ups being shot at wellington studios, they are actually doing some more pick ups for the pellenor fields, they are using a giant blue screen and there were a bunch of extras. Also in previous pick ups, Dom Monaghan did some new scenes with Bernard Hill who plays Theoden.
Finally, work on the trailer will begin in late August. It will be a type of "super trailer," over 2 minutes in length. Also, don't get your hopes up about seeing shelob in the trailer, she will be teased. You may see just a leg or any eye or just her lair, they really are not considering putting her in the trailer in all her glory.
Also, there is talk of adding a hidden ROTK preview to TTT EE dvd just like what was done with TFOTR EE dvd and TTT hidden preview. Nothing is certain yet."
Thats all!
Sean Astinwho plays Sam in the upcoming third Lord of the Rings film, The Return of the Kingtold SCI FI Wire that his climactic scenes with co-star Elijah Wood (Frodo) were intensely satisfying as an actor. "I'd say the most sacred acting experience I ever had was at the top of Mt. Ruepahu, with Elijah Wood in my arms," Astin said in an interview at the recent Comic-Con International, referring to the New Zealand volcano that doubled as J.R.R. Tolkien's Mt. Doom. "It wasn't acting anymore. It was one of the most moving [experiences]. [Director] Peter [Jackson] was just sobbing."
Astin added, "I just remember this floodgate of emotion came through in the performance at that moment, when we did the scene. And Peter was crying, and I was crying. And afterwards, I was running around in the parking lot ... on this active volcano, like, yelling and cheering and like so excited. I was so, like, I had done it. I had nailed it. I had reached a point as an actor of emotional openness that I had hithertofore never been able to achieve. And that felt wonderful. So I'm so proud."
Astin said that he and Wood were helped by the "poetry" of the script. "My little brother [Mackenzie] is an actor, too," Astin said. "When we were on the train yesterday, they're like, 'So, what do you do?' And he's like, 'I'm an emotional engineer.' So I felt like I got my Ph.D. as an emotional engineer on Return of the King." King opens Dec. 17.
Spoiler alert!
I have goosebumps thinking about it...
It was a stone of fire, its power was to inspire the hearts of the free peoples.
Elrond also had a ring, and did not wear it openly. If you'll remember from the book, Sam could not see Galadriel's ring Ninya on her hand, but Frodo could, because he was a bearer of a Ring of Power. Both Elron and Galadriel used their rings to establish a field of protection and a kind of "non-decaying" spell around their kingdons of Rivendell and Lothlorien.

A spy by the name of Jedi over at Comingsoon.net has posted a bit of information about the scenes in the Two Towers Extended Edition and some minor spoilers for RoTK.
