When the US actually did move ‘heaven and earth’ ... Nixon’s order to use “everything that can fly” to resupply Israel,

A coalition of Arab nations, led by Egypt and Syria, had surprised the Israeli military with a coordinated, all-out assault on the Jewish nation as it observed the holiest day of its year, Yom Kippur. Armed with the latest in Soviet weaponry, Arab forces quickly destroyed Israeli warplanes and tanks in numbers so shockingly large that a complete conquest of Israel — previously unthinkable — suddenly seemed all too possible.

In desperate need of rearmament, Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir sent multiple appeals to the United States for military aid. Some of President Richard Nixon’s military advisors counseled against such a move, as they feared it would rapidly spiral into open warfare between America and the Soviet Union.

Nixon, after huddling with National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger, ordered a decisive response that few if any expected: a full-on emergency mobilization of the American military to immediately bring the Israeli military back to its pre-invasion strength.

Launched just six days after the first Egyptian and Syrian attacks, “Operation Nickel Grass” constituted a resupply campaign that surpassed anything ever seen before — or since — in American history. U.S. military transports filled to the brim with weapons and supplies immediately took off for Israeli airbases, shadowed by American fighters with orders to shoot down any plane that appeared even remotely hostile.

Quickly restocked with fresh American equipment, Israeli forces rapidly regained control of the battlefield and, by the time a cease fire took hold four weeks later, once again had little to fear from its enemies.

The success of Nickel Grass, driven in no small part by Nixon’s order to use “everything that can fly” to resupply Israel,

“...post them.

If not, STFU.”

All you have to do is look at the enemies list

A huge fraction for 2 percent of the population.

Well, I guess no good deed goes unpunished.

That’s when Nixon raised the DEFCON level.

We went on three ring alert/24 hr standby. Worked 12 hr shifts moving everything to Travis AFB that could be airlifted to McGuire. Interesting times.

I was issued cold weather gear and packed up with my gear by the front door and my step brother was packed up and sitting on the tarmac with the 82nd. I was being discharged from the Army within months and thought it would be sort of nasty to be detoured to the Eastern Front.

Thank God and thank you for your service sir!

Yikes. Did Nixon know what would have befallen him had he refused to resign?

Which led to the OPEC oil embargo. Which caused crude oil prices to almost triple. Which led to the “Energy Crisis” (and the 55 mph national speed limit, among other horse puckey). Which led to America ‘discovering’ Japanese cars. Before that, it was un-patriotic to not buy American. Which led to a crisis in Detroit that forced them to “raise their game” and build cars that got better gas mileage and lasted longer. In 1972, a car was decent if it lasted 100,000 miles. IN 1978, a car was crap if it didn’t last 200,000.

All actions have consequence, differing only in scope and degree, God alone knows all and acts in the light of all that can be known.

I had a battery in the Illinois Army National Guard, short two forward observer 1/4 tons and trailers. They finally arrived at the railroad yard at Camp Lincoln and were waiting on a low-boy to deliver to our armory in Chicago. The war in question happened and I was advised that my vehicles and trailers were on board a C-141 bound for Israel. Funny, they were never replaced, but I never doubted that they were well invested.

Yes, and being so close to the Vietnam war provided and enabled lots of equipment to be transferred. But how Israel obtained its first military air craft is another story. https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/beg-borrow-steal-part-2-the-formation-of-israels-air-force.96227/

In the movie against all odds, the 6 day war, there is a part that talks about Nixon before he was president. His mom told him there will be a day that you can help israel and you need to help them. It’s a great movie.

“Nixon actually hated Israeli influence in our government.”

True, but unlike these modern idiots Nixon didn’t conflate actively supporting Israel’s right to exist with Israeli lobbying influence in Washington; he knew it was right to do the one, even as he opposed the other.

The Watergate takedown and subsequent resignation was transparently contrived and unfair. Apparently someone thinks its high time America was reindoctrinated with that barrel of bilge — I saw that one of those special magazines at the grocery store checkout rack is “all about” Watergate. Which means it’ll be all the propaganda the Deep State rammed down Americans’ throats during those days.

This article is from Oct. of 2022. The Nixon Israel story is just a wind up for the pitch for more arms for Ukraine. My sense is Ukraine has probably received many more arms and dollars since this was written.

Even fanatic Zeepers don’t claim they are winning the war anymore though.
