Hangry bear gobbles up ducklings at the zoo in front of horrified children: ‘That was not nice’

The “Five Little Ducks” were met with a grizzly end.

A zoo bear named Juniper shocked guests at a girl’s birthday party after devouring ducklings that had landed in its enclosure, as seen in a video with over 2 million views on TikTok.

“A #natgeo trainwreck for my daughters’ birthday, thanks JUNIPER,” mother Rachelle captioned the clip of the impromptu feeding.

She and her fellow revelers, which comprised both adults and children, had reportedly been celebrating her daughter’s birthday at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington.

The bash took a turn when the party-goers stopped by the bear exhibit and witnessed a 2-year-old female coastal brown bear, named Juniper, eyeing a momma duck and her ducklings that had alighted in the enclosure.

That’s when the humongous quack addict decided to make its move.

In the traumatizing clip, the mother duck and her brood are swimming through the pool as Juniper watches them hungrily from the bank.

All of a sudden, the hangry bruin jumps into the drink and makes a bee-line for the ducklings, causing them to scatter across the pond. She then proceeds to gobble them up one by one like chicken nuggets as the onlookers gasp in shock.

...snip...

Fortunately, Rachelle assured viewers that the kids were not “traumatized” by the quacker-crunching carnage.

“We see wildlife doing their thing all over where we live,” she said, snarking, “Oh and we also let them watch Dave Attenborough shows *gasp.*”

"While ducklings might seem like small prey for a brown bear — which can weigh over 1,0000 pounds — the omnivorous critters are highly opportunistic when it comes to feeding."

Darn big bear.

"What's that, Mummy?"

"Why, that's a food vendor stand, dear."

"What's he selling, Mummy?"

"Baby ducks, dear..."

I used to be a zookeeper. Our elephant would stand swaying back and forth, watching the ducks out of the corner of her eye. When one got close enough, she would step on it and flatten it out. I could hold a flattened duck at arms level, and it would be dragging the ground.

She did the same to a couple of goats that got out of their pen.

Also, one wheelbarrow that a careless zookeeper left while she went to answer the phone.

The hyena will kill lion cubs. The hyena will kill lionesses. The hyena will eat prey animals that could otherwise be eaten by the lion.

The male lion’s size is optimized for his niche. He’s big enough so that two males can destroy as many hyenas as care to fight. He’s big enough to help with Cape Buffalo and giraffes. But not so big that he can’t run fast. Not so big there’s not enough food for him.Not so big the lionesses can’t push back if he’s totally out of line.

It’s indicative of something that when I raised a steer for the freezer, I didn’t name it. The daughters insisted on naming it “Sparkle,” but that habit died when “Sparkle” was wrapped in paper packages in the chest freezer.

And the snappers. I worked in a housing development once that had a large retention pond in it. When the ducklings hatched you’d see , 8 or 9 of them and then in a few days that would dwindle down to 2 or 3.

Snapping turtles would get them.

I’ve seen eagles swoop down and pluck a baby loon out of the water on occasion.

Th3y also pluck full grown geese too, which are pretty big birds. Golden eagles will attack and kill wolves, deer, coyotes, etc. Lots of video on YouTube showing that- they are a pretty fearless bird.
