MTG MAKES HER MOVE...
My Inbox ^ | May 1 | Politico Playbook PM

Rep. MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE (R-Ga.) officially put a time frame on her effort to oust Speaker MIKE JOHNSON, announcing at a press conference this morning that she’ll bring up the motion to vacate as a privileged matter next week.

Greene’s move will be just the latest chaos to roil the House GOP Conference, but unlike the successful push to depose KEVIN McCARTHY last year, this one “seems doomed,” Olivia Beavers and Jordain Carney report. Having readied for this moment, House Republican leaders are planning to move to quash her attempt, with help from Democrats repulsed by Greene’s coup attempt. (We’ll see what procedural tricks they have up their sleeves to dispense with it as quickly as possible.)

The big question is whether Greene and her allies can build up some support — and to what level — over the next week. Once they make the motion, a vote on Johnson’s speakership would take place within two days. Appearing with Greene today, Rep. THOMAS MASSIE (R-Ky.) called the speaker “a lost ball in tall weeds” and said he should resign before the motion to vacate even comes up. Greene maintained that her motion was driven not by personal vendettas but by Johnson’s policy moves, including his decision to push through a big foreign aid package dependent on Democratic votes.

Rep. WARREN DAVIDSON (R-Ohio) told CNN’s Manu Raju that he wouldn’t support an expected procedural vote to kill the motion to vacate, but he said he wasn’t sure about the underlying question — whether to save Johnson or not.

Johnson doesn’t seem too concerned. “This motion is wrong for the Republican Conference, wrong for the institution, and wrong for the country,” he said in a brief statement this morning. And in an interview with NewsNation’s Blake Burman that’s slated to air on “The Hill” tonight, Johnson gave Greene a NANCY PELOSI-esque kiss-off with a Southern twist: “Bless her heart.” Burman: “Is she a serious lawmaker?” Johnson: “I don’t think she is proving to be. No. I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about her.”

The United States is being drastically changed every day.. And not for better.
It’s a long 6 months yet for them to get worse. Johnson passed that huge give away bill that was uncalled for.. They make changes that fit their agenda, and bad for the country.
Johnson did no explaining and he seems to be more a democrat.. He isn’t about to stop the spending.. Plus his age says he is not experienced enough to stand against the dems.
MTG got off her duff and disagreed with what the repubs have agreed to. Thank you MTG!

“...This way, at least HR2 is still out there, and the border issue is seen as being blocked by the Dems, ...”

Nobody knows about “HR2”... and what the Dems did... That’s just Beltway stupidness.

What they know is Johnson sent $100 bill to Ukraine, and the border is still wide open and people are pouring in. As people can see in their own communities.

It’s the same BS as Sunak making a great fanfare over “Deport to Rwanda”, when thousands per week are still crossing the Channel with absolutely no opposition.

The plan is for Jeffries to be speaker before the election regardless of what MTG does.

The was no “magic” involved.

If Johnson held out for “border security 1st”, the discharge petition for the Senate aid bill would have gone through and we’d have that as law, or, perhaps the previous version with some seriously pseudo-border-security thrown in to defuse the issue for the election.

Yes, when you get out of the FR echo-chamber the split is a lot more even, esp. if aid to Israel is packaged with it...

What's bad about it?

The Dems have already said they'd save Mikey.

First, that's going to happen. The Democrats will save Johnson.

Secondly, what the hell difference would it make if Jefferies took over? Democrats still wouldn't have the votes to pass anything radical. The Republicans in the Senate could filibuster legislation if necessary.

The worst that happens is the endless Republican investigations to nowhere would end.

On the plus side, a radical like Jefferies being Speaker would probably help Republicans in the election.

If you are ignorant, I can’t help that. Johnson has repeatedly called for movement on HR2.

Granted that nothing the Pubbies get passed will make any difference anyway, unless Trump gets elected, and to really make some hay he needs solid backing in the House and Senate.

The only play is to paint the Dems as worsening the border problems and get good results in November.

That is possibly the least intelligent post today except for the other one you just posted inviting a fellow FReeper to ... and pass away. You're a clever son of a gun!

My God, some of yall have the worst political instincts I have ever seen! Anybody on our side arguing that allowing a Democrat (other than Tulsi Gabbard) to control a House of Congree or branch of Government should be as far as possible away from plotting election strategy 🙄. For as much as I love the issues championed by MAGA, I’m afraid guys like you are temporarily the majority deciding our fate. How naive some of yall sound & so seriously misguided when it comes to thinking things through. I don’t think that’s your strong suit.

What’s terrible is we went from the establishment right controlling election strategy & being barely mediocre- plus not supporting our stances enough & selling us out. 2016 was an amazing year & a necessary change in the GOP! Trump caught lightning & made history. I’m voting for him a 3rd time this year. However, I don’t know what made rank & file MAGA think they’d be great at campaigns & elections. To date, we have lost 3 consecutive elections (& it wasn’t all because of election cheating).

I knew as soon as I heard some of yall opining about how a Republican that goes squishy on an issue is just as bad or worse than a leftist Democrat- that we were doomed come election day. Yall have also convinced(with your wise words) many of our countryman not to bother showing up to vote for anyone besides President Trump as they are all establishment stooges. I am thankful for any new voters Trump brings in, but I don’t support justifiably taking control of a party & movement from a snobby elite (rightly so), only to hand our fate & future over to the kids in Special Ed.

If you were even a tiny bit wiser, you’d realize that in controlling all branches they could abolish the filibuster with a simple majority rule change, things could pass both houses with simple majorities (which they would have), the President could sign them into law with no real debate & they could expand the Supreme Court & all other courts to however many justice they need to interpret the Costitution to mean anything they want it to. They take over voting rules & oversight from each of the states, put you on a list for a dubious reason & bar you from your Constitutional right to vote They could also pass actual law legalizing flooding every single red state with enough foreigners that it’ll never vote conservative again & we wouldn’t have the numbers to mount much of a resistance.

I swear to God himself, yall have got to stop being morons & act like grownups. You vote out your own Speaker when you have the numbers to get rid of him & retain control of office. You never willingly hand over an office to a Democrat- not even when the Republican is a squish or a disappointment or tou want to choke him for being a sellout. It’s not about your anger at all times! When you are ultimately in a tough spot like this, you decide which one, would be a bigger disaster to the Republic. I’d say if your instinct is to conflate the two or say the squishy Republican is worse, you have horrible political instincts, belong to a different philosophical movement than us conservatives or are a Democrat plant sent here to give terrible advice 🙄💯

“Pray for the Military Industrial Complex”
The funny thing is that I think you are right. While I would root for Ukraine in this war, if it weren’t for what I perceive as the US national interest I wouldn’t be happy to see our money (or mostly old military equipment) being given away.
I don’t think even Eisenhower opposed the Military Industrial Complex itself. Instead I think he was warning us that that combination was becoming so powerful that it was starting to be primarily interested in its self interest instead of the US national interest.
I remember in the novel series “The Winds of War” where the German general was telling “Pug” Henry that the US Lend Lease program was just allowing the US to rearm while sending early models to be battle tested. Something similar is happening with the current US aid packages. Most of the money is being spent replacing old US weapons with the newest weaponry that the US keeps and with increasing the arms production capability in the US.
Have you seen the Perun videos on YouTube? If you haven’t and if you are interested in such things I’d highly recommend them.
