Woman Falls to Her Death While Hiking in Sedona
WSB-TV ^ | April 17, 2024 | Jessica Goodman

Officials say a woman has died after she fell during a hike in Sedona, Arizona earlier this week.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said they got a call Monday morning about a woman who had fallen off a 140-foot cliff on Bear Mountain. The woman was hiking with her 1-year-old child and her husband.

Other hikers in the area stopped after hearing yelling and found that the woman had been seriously injured, the sheriff’s office said. One of them called for help while another hiked down to the woman. The woman was still breathing when the hiker got to her, but she later died.

The sheriff’s office identified the woman as Zynad Joseph, 40, according to KNXV.

Authorities said the woman was visiting from California and was renting an Airbnb in the area at the time of the incident, KTVK reported.

Joseph’s husband and child were flown off the trail, KNXV reported. Both were not injured.

I’m 30mi. from Sedona and they don’t have Concrete paths with guard rails like Cali.

I don't know what few parts of California have concrete paths with guard rails.

Even Half Dome in Yosemite only has cables for part of the climb.

Mist Trail in Yosemite is in the top ten most dangerous trails in the U.S.

Between cliffs and waterfalls, there's plenty of risk:

You can fall off a cliff...

...or the cliff can fall from underneath you...

“Neither were injured.”

Ignore the grammar cops. Neither (of them) were injured is acceptable.

Best not to assume a crime was not committed. 😉

I’ve been there within the last year. Sedona is chock full of a-hole tourists. I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often.

” He was unaware that an early blizzard “

Back in the 60’s I visited the Grand Canyon on a cross country trip.

Weather was clear as I headed north on 89 from Flagstaff and visited the canyon. Then the snow hit. Route 64 had about an inch on the highway and I was the first one on it. No tire marks to follow. Met a car going north and we both inched around each other.

Hit the interstate and east bound traffic (uphill) was stopped. Luckily I was going west bound and kept going.

Neither (one) was injured. The subject is never the object of a preposition.

Neith (of them) were injured.

No, neither is almost always singular. Put "one" in there and it becomes clear. You would say "neither one was injured" rather than "neither one were injured."

There's a good discussion here. The relevant portion is:

"Is it 'neither is' or 'neither are'?

Neither is usually used with a singular verb, as in "Neither one is here." But sometimes, especially when a prepositional phrase with a plural in it comes between neither and the verb, a plural verb is used, as in "Neither of those are going to work."

First time i visited Sedona was fifty-two years ago. A picturesque little sleepy town back then. I guess i have been there twenty-five times in the last thirty years. Still beautiful but mobbed.

Interesting place in its day. Met Robert Shields and rummaged around in his basement garage with my wife and he back when he lived just off Oak Creek. Some very beautiful golf courses but way too crowded now.

I like towns like that before they become “a thing.” Santa Fe, Taos,Ouray, Crested Butte, Eureka Springs, Blowing Rock, and etc..

No it's not. I do not normally comment on grammatical errors in postings. In this case, I made an exception because the poster was correcting the author's poor grammar. That was fine, but the poster "corrected" it incorrectly.

There’s really no comparison between the two.
Zion is almost 300 miles from Sedona and Angel’s Landing is one of the most demanding hikes in the US, 1500’ tall, where many skilled hikers have died.
