San Francisco jails on lockdown, request help from National Guard amid attacks on deputies

Two San Francisco County jails were placed on lockdown Sunday afternoon and a request for help from the National Guard was issued as officials reported that attacks against jail deputies are on the rise.

"Recent incidents have shocked the community, including a sharp rise in prisoner fights, attacks on prisoners by other inmates, and injuries to both civilian employees and deputy sheriffs. These dangerous incidents underscore the pressing need for intervention to ensure the safety and security of all within the jails," The San Francisco Deputy Sheriff's Association (SFDSA) said in a statement on Sunday.

Sheriff officials reported that since March 29, at least seven staff members have been injured by inmates, including two who sustained serious injuries.

The SFDSA association's president, Ken Lomba, demanded that San Francisco city leaders request the deployment of the California National Guard to assist with staffing issues.

"I am writing to urgently address the escalating violence within the San Francisco Jails, a situation that demands immediate action," the letter read. "Given the severity of these challenges, I demand that you immediately request deployment of the California National Guard to temporarily supplement our current staffing levels."

Lomba explains that a crisis that has been worsening since 2020. He says the SFDSA stresses that the City and Sheriff’s Office must act swiftly to address this pressing issue and bolster safety and security within the jails.

In the letter, the SFDSA claimed 2023 saw at least 240 reported incidents of prisoner fights, a 58% increase from 2022, and that the reported attacks on inmates against other inmates rose 79% over the same period.

I assume they are running on too few guards due to the limited police budget so the inmates are “running” the inside.

Since restricting their movements would be mean, how about they just let them all out? Isn’t that what ‘liberal” places do - put civilians at the mercy of the feral animals?

That’s EXACTLY the way the far-left morons think. It’s those “college participation diplomas” we bought for them. However, it takes them a little while to think up these good ideas.

In Clown World you would release them...and, then, make the former prisons housing for illegal alien invaders. Of course, you’d have to add a swimming pool and big screen tv’s for them.

Jail and prison are both schools for criminality and training to improve ability at dealing out violence.

We need a better solution than making criminals worse while paying for it.

Most nonviolent offenses should have physical punishment for first and second offenses.

Offenses against strangers driven by bad thinking (Chomo, rape, pushing in front of subway, etc) should all get death penalty first offense.

Violent crimes such as robbery should get a fixed ten year term.

But what we really need is an exile option where return is impossible. Our islands are for the most part too small to serve the purpose I have in mind.

In Wyoming, or Montana, or Alaska, it should be possible to construct a reservation secured from air entry and so constructed as to prevent escape through a properly constructed barrier. Second and third violent offenders not eligible for death could be sent there with a 30-day food supply to live among others of their own kind, and to make their way as best as they were able, recognizing that most would die of exposure or assaults, but that we could cease to be concerned with them and their problems - assignment to the reservation would be a life term with no further interacttions with our civilization.

"OK, that's strange. That said, how does a person end up in jail when pooping on the street is ok, theft isn't a felony until more than a thousand dollars worth of 'stuff' is taken, and addicts shoot up next to elementary schools?"

Exactly what I was thinking. You would think that "Frisco" would have a "better class" of criminals. Somebody is doing something "backwards" up there.

Hey, wanna check out Lombard Street?

or the Daily Looters?

Attica uprising 1971. After the place was finally cleared, the State realized that they never should have brought in outside police agencies to deal with the riot, and required each prison to develop it’s own CERT Team (Correctional Emergency Response Team) that would take care of any emergency situations that arose.

“re-introduce” the Grizzly Bear population to grow and thrive on the homeless

Washington state is doing this already to take out the 'rural white population'. They're the ones with all the guns.

Daily looters? Yeah, that might be it. Most cities have ‘situational looters’ not ‘daily looters’. But since that’s not a crime statistic category - it doesn’t count...

Well, it's complex and involves many different variables and factors - except for guilt or innocence. Those are irrelevant.

LOL - that's a great answer - on so many levels.
