Map suggesting how the U.S. could be split into four different regions sparks UPROAR online - as critics rail against the placement of ONE specific state

A major point of contention among Redditors was including the state of Missouri in the South.

'I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I recognize Missourah!' a man declared, whose comments history suggests he lives in Alabama - and who further poked fun at how some in the southern part of Missouri pronounce the state's name.

'I feel like Missouri was only given to the south here to generate interaction and comments. Missouri is definitely Midwest, and classified by the government as Midwest,' a second argued.

What do YOU think is the correct area for Missouri?

South Midwest 'Geographically it is midwestern, culturally it is more southern. Also giving Missouri to the south is Kansan approved,' a third contended.

Idaho and eastern WA and eastern OR are more alike than different. And the Treasure Valley is becoming more liberal than anything in the eastern parts of the other states.

Pronouncing the final i like a as in sofa used to be very common. My Florida relatives pronounced Miami as Miama, for example.

That might be a holdover from an old English pronunciation, similar to pronouncing the final a like a y as in Virginny (Virginia), Loretty (Loretta), Alabammy, et al. We used to hear this when we visited Appalachia, but the entire, once very distinctive Appalachian dialect seems to be disappearing rapidly.

Liberals would self-deport from the Treasure Valley if it ever came down to it.

Too late. Idaho is thoroughly infested with Californicators. I don’t even think Sandpoint has any more Idahoans left. Boise imported rapefugees by the trainload. CDL is another colony of San Fransisco.

Sandpoint may be more liberal yes, but Sandpoint does not have enough population to overrule the rest of Bonner County.

That’s easy. The states that ceded land to the Union can reclaim it. Thus together, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia can reclaim California and everything else from the Atlantic to the Pacific by grant from the British sovereign.

St Louis has many historic functions. We all know it is the beginning of the West, with that little archy thing sticking 630 ft into the air right next to that big muddy crick.

But it is also the beginning of the South. Go south of town and you are suddenly in the land of Mizzour-ah, biscuits, ribs, briskets and RV dealerships the size of Toledo.

Missouri fielded two brigades in the Civil War. Both fought for the South. In addition, Missouri was a slave state and fought the abolitionist Jayhawkers in Kansas, a bitter rivalry surviving to this day. Finally, Mizzou is a proud member of the SEC. We belong in the southern block. We’ve EARNED it.

Yep. South of Limbaugh’s home town of Cape Girardeau is Lamberts’ - home of the throwed roll. Wonder what Rush would prefer.

West would just become Greater California in that map. But that’s happening already...

From the article:

'Can we agree that without splitting states, this is the best way to divide the USA into four?'

I had to zoom in to see your point, but to break up ONLY Maryland makes ZERO sense. Most likely explanation is that the Reddit user (or the Brit-based Daily Mail) did the map wrong. I would love to see an Illinois WITHOUT Cook County. Even if the penalty was that normal Illinoisans couldn't use Cook County (Shopping, hospitals, restaurants), it would be well worth it.

I think Texas Oklahoma and Arkansas would make a nice little confederation of states. Take the northern half of Louisiana maybe.

My great-great-grandfather lived in SW Missouri at the time of the war and served for 6 months in a Missouri Union company (no combat). He named one of his children for a Union general. His brother who lived in Jackson County fought for the Confederate side.

Mosty ANY large city (like a state capitol) in the south should be excluded. They are not southern but controlled by leftists.

I always thought that “Midwest” was an illogical name for what is the middle.
