Another RINO bites the congressional dust, or is something more sinister going on?

News broke today that Rep. Mike Gallagher (RINO-WI) is leaving the house well before his term ends. He’ll join former Representatives Kevin McCarthy and Ken Buck, both of whom bowed out before their terms ended. I can think of four reasons for a politician to bow out early: necessity, pique, changed alliances, and one other thing more sinister than the other three.

As of January 2023, Republicans had a very narrow majority in the House. After the rebellion against Kevin McCarthy, the latter, in a fit of pique, withdrew on October 3, 2023, long before finishing his term, diminishing the Republican majority.

Then, the Republicans, proving that they truly are the stupid party, decided to show their “moral superiority” by kicking out Rep. George Santos. Yes, Santos is an odd bird, but he wasn’t so bad that he needed to be tossed. Doing so shrank that slender majority still more.

Last week, Rep. Ken Buck, a RINO’s RINO from Colorado, withdrew from the House, announcing that he was leaving effective yesterday. That means that there’ll be a special election for his replacement at the end of June. In Colorado, that’s not a good thing and could well mean a Democrat goes to Congress in his place.

And then, just today, Charlie Kirk notified people via Twitter that Rep. Gallagher is heading out of Congress almost immediately, in the most damaging way possible for Republicans:

With Gallagher’s departure and a possible Democrat victory in Colorado, there’s a real likelihood that Democrats will soon control the House. That means that, between now and January (when I devoutly hope there really is a red wave), Democrats will control Congress. Packing the Supreme Court and Puerto Rican statehood will suddenly be back on the agenda while Biden’s trembling hand can still sign

...went to Princeton, he was an officer in the Marine Corps in the intelligence field, he went to the national intelligence university to get a masters degree... Opposing Maga, opposing Trump, and supporting the intelligence community in deep speed is what he enjoys. Nobody thinks Liz Cheney had to be bribed or threatened.>

You make great points. This man should never have been running on a Republican ticket. Do you know the process and the incentives on who runs for office? To run sucessfully at a fairly high level you have to have a 'political consultant firm' accept you as a client. It takes money, organization and know-how to 'sell a candidate'.

Consultants pick and choose who they'll accept. Here's where toxic incentives do their damage. Consultants need someone who can win and make it possible for them to raise money. That matters because their fees are based overwhelmingly on a percentage of what their political ads costs.

So they have to find an attractive person - with a story (if not known) - who can get people to send money - AND someone who's easy enough to manipulate that they'll buy the ads needed to keep the consultant's company profitable and 'follow' advice. Because a consultant who can't pick winners can't recruit the best and charge the most.

By the time you've filter with the above - and with other 'natural' incentives you've got 'what we have'. Attractive milquetoast... The only real way around that system is to have people like Trump run - basically on their own. And you're right about the 'intelligence' background but that does NOT exclude blackmail. If anything it increases the possibly blackmail was involved. Power freaks love people who are mildly compromised because they can be controlled - - when necessary.

Last week, Rep. Ken Buck, a RINO’s RINO from Colorado

He has consistently been very conservative and one of the most conservative members of the House.

Mike Gallagher has been as well...though not as much as Buck - but he is still more reliably conservative than many members of the caucus.

Indeed, all of those who voted against the impeachment of Mayorkas have been among the most reliable conservative votes. McClintock of California is another one. The RINO "moderates" held together on that vote. And none of them have abruptly resigned, either.

Something strange is going on here.

The new Congress elected is who presides over the tabulation of the Electoral votes, not the current one.

Yes. The rinos want Biden and the democrats. Look at all the power and money at stake. No more republican majority in either house and the election votes are not certified.

if you have been paying attention for the past several decades, you will notice that any time there is a possibility of a ‘red wave’ giving ‘republicans’ a decisive lead, the deep state tells its minions to retire because of the overwhelming edge incumbency gives. Happens like clockwork every. single. time.

From the old movie "Johnny Dangerously" where Danny DeVito's character is pressuring Johnny's prosecutor brother to "Play Ball" and turn on him.

Brilliant because, along with this tactic, sexually irresistible pages, profitable schemes they're assured are untraceable and good ole' "reaching across the aisle" favors ALWAYS screw over the best-intentioned Congress people worn down from these pressures over time.

Rand Paul is a rare exemption so news of his demise wouldn't surprise me - just confirm my belief. THAT'S who should be the next Speaker.

They probably thought it was unnecessary because, in their own minds, they were convinced that the events of Jan. 6 had already killed his political career.
