That recommendation is due to the prevalence of criminals wearing body armor. It also reduces the risk of injuring innocents with friendly fire from a through-and-through by not firing horizontally.

That a property owner has to resort to this in the USA is sheer insanity.

Now the person paying the mortgage, insurance and taxes must jump through hoops to take control of their property.

Also, do not let the utilities go unpaid and get turned off.

A few weeks ago I read about some owner having the utilities turned off and the squatters went to court, and some execrable judge ordered the owner to have the utilities turned back on and to pay the bills.
