Author Douglas Murray has slammed an article labelling English novelist George Orwell as homophobic.
“None of this stuff is at all unknown – George Orwell in human being, shocker!” he told Sky News Australia host Rita Panahi.
“This is just an attempt to grab headlines by the author in question.”
Mr Murray praised George Orwell for contributing some of the most important works of the 20th century, some of the most important journalism and some of the most important fiction.
"Perhaps as a gay man, maybe I have some privilege to say this – I don’t give a damn that George Orwell didn’t think that gay people were exactly quite the same as, say, himself.
“I don’t need him to be in total alignment with my views in 2023.”

In the 1940s, virtually everyone in the US was anti-depravity. The UK was likely the same.
This attack on Orwell is to discredit him so that his predictions in 1984 can be ignored.
It’s like discrediting the teachings of any religion (even Islam) when promoting evil.
Who wasn’t “homophobic” back then. Especially considering the new definition of the word. i.e. it no longer simply means fear.
Not in high school.
Orwell was mean to pigs. Cancel him.
He also said some anti-Semitic things in Down and Out in Paris and London. Cancel him double!
I fail to see the problem.

Oh, crap! Now you're in BIG trouble, Doug!
For certain George Orwell had Hemingway’s number back then— he described a Hemingway in the Spanish Civil War as promoting the Lincoln Brigade (Communists of an international composition who fought on the side of the “republic” of Socialist Left).
Orwell said Hemingway knew all about Kim Philby (a “reporter” working for Stalin who eliminated thousands of Franco’s fighters with the intel Philby provided). During WWII Philby and the Cambridge Stalin spies were “allies” foolishly embraced. Churchill knew about them. But somehow later Hemingway winds up with a mansion estate in Cuba (to “keep an eye on Fidel”- who only met with him one time). Can’t stand Hemingway, and Orwell was dead on correct as he walked away from Socialist world crapola.
Today the Left uses ‘’1984’’ as an instruction manual.
