Who wasn’t “homophobic” back then. Especially considering the new definition of the word. i.e. it no longer simply means fear.

For certain George Orwell had Hemingway’s number back then— he described a Hemingway in the Spanish Civil War as promoting the Lincoln Brigade (Communists of an international composition who fought on the side of the “republic” of Socialist Left).

Orwell said Hemingway knew all about Kim Philby (a “reporter” working for Stalin who eliminated thousands of Franco’s fighters with the intel Philby provided). During WWII Philby and the Cambridge Stalin spies were “allies” foolishly embraced. Churchill knew about them. But somehow later Hemingway winds up with a mansion estate in Cuba (to “keep an eye on Fidel”- who only met with him one time). Can’t stand Hemingway, and Orwell was dead on correct as he walked away from Socialist world crapola.
