When I was in we cleaned our barracks, fixed our barracks when we could, mowed lawns etc. When I was in base housing we had lawn of the month etc. It was always about pride in ownership and competition.

Today everything is contracted out and housing is all contractor run and you get what you get.

Exactly. Start by the troops cleaning up first.

The picture of the turds on the floor were over the top. Cleaning up your own latrines is old school. Like 1000 BC.

I agree with maddog. When I was in we took care of ourselves. We didn’t need anyone to take care of us. We cleaned everything, the floors, the walls, the beds, the latrines. But I guess things have changed. Big brother needs to take care of us! From some of the other comments being made, there seems to be a consensus that big brother needs to be involved in how we live, so the village can make us feel proud instead of us getting the pride we deserve by doing things ourselves.
The cleanliness of the barracks is the responsibility of the people who live there. I don’t think having the mindset of big brother or anyone else to take care of you is the right way to go. The cleanliness of my home is my responsibility. I enjoy being independent.

Yup, bygone days. The good old days.

Reminds me of USCG Alameda , CA. boot camp. My company was on its way to a record amount of competition award pennants for our company , and we were stuck trying to find a way to improve on our performance in week 8.

Then the company blanket party king
( a crazy masochist )
came up with that weeks barracks cleanliness competition award winning idea.

Remove the grates below the lockers to get at and polish the brass and copper piping under them.

Damn shame what Obama has done to our military.
