A new government report detailed the dire living conditions some military members face in their barracks across the country, highlighting a problem military leaders have so far struggled to fix.
A report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that young troops living in barracks on military installations have been forced to confront everything from pests such as roaches and bed bugs to toxic waste and even squatters, potentially putting the health and safety of members at risk while damaging morale.
The 118-page report, which was published Monday by the GAO, concluded that military leaders at the Pentagon have not been able to provide proper oversight over the problem and have mostly left the issues up to each individual service to fix.
Investigators from the GAO visited 12 unnamed military installations to compile the report and spoke with service members in discussion groups to gain their perspective. Many service members complained of dirty water that was seemingly unsafe to drink in their barracks buildings. Others complained of broken air conditioning and heating systems, forcing many members to purchase individual air conditioning units for their sweltering rooms or turn to unsafe space heaters to provide warmth in the colder months. Another issue noted by investigators was that some buildings lacked secure windows and doors that have in some cases led to squatters occupying the rooms.
In one extreme case, officials at one installation told GAO investigators that "service members are responsible for cleaning biological waste that may remain in a barracks room after a suicide."

This is a disgrace, but this is what happens when the far-left liberals put freeloading, foreign deadbeats first, ahead of Americans. I read an article last night that claims the DNC has imported 7.5 MILLION new voters since Joe Pedo rose to the throne. 86% are single males. Congratulations “America”! Good job.
Most of that money is recycled through contacts to the MIC and UniParty donors. Very little of it goes to the troops. My step-daughter and her husband were transferred from Pensacola to Norfolk last Fall and her mom and I had to pay for it until the Pentagon check for their move was released two months later and they could pay us back. If people actually knew what awful human beings are leading government, they wouldn’t put up with it. Instead, a true patriot like Trump gets the Soviet treatment and morons applaud it because it covers up the real crimes of their political heroes.

The first question that comes to my mind is ‘where are the senior enlisted?” E-7’s, E-8’s, E-9’s? Every senior NCO or Chief Petty Officer is personally responsible for the well-being of their enlisted people, from the newest E-1 to the most gnarly E-6. The fact that the senior enlisted personnel have allowed this to happen is disgraceful and is incredibly worrisome as to how these seniors would support their personnel in combat.
Admittedly, my last days as a senior enlisted (SCPO (E-8)) were 30+ years ago, but we would, and did, bitch to command if we every encountered anything like this. In this case, the entire Command structure has failed these junior enlisted.

I know exactly what you mean. It sounds like nobody is in charge anymore. The Army was a lot better place before cellphones. We had “GI Parties” to fill in all our “spare time”. Now, they all sit around poking their cellphones. Lloyd Austin needs his “woke” ass kicked. He isn’t doing the job he was hired to do. Too busy shakin’ the bushes lookin’ for “white supremacists” in his military.
The Army doesn’t give a shit. These eff’n woke generals have no clue how to win a war. I have an image of Gen Donohue burned into my mind as he walks up the ramp of a C-17 as a victorious general and last soldier to leave Afghanistan. It’s really sickening. It’s all image over substance. He’s so eff’n clueless that he has no idea that half the men under his command thinks he is a poser, woke piece of chit. They hate his guts. Under his lack of leadership, politics reign supreme. There are BC’s that have no idea what they are doing.

I agree with maddog. When I was in we took care of ourselves. We didn’t need anyone to take care of us. We cleaned everything, the floors, the walls, the beds, the latrines. But I guess things have changed. Big brother needs to take care of us! From some of the other comments being made, there seems to be a consensus that big brother needs to be involved in how we live, so the village can make us feel proud instead of us getting the pride we deserve by doing things ourselves.
The cleanliness of the barracks is the responsibility of the people who live there. I don’t think having the mindset of big brother or anyone else to take care of you is the right way to go. The cleanliness of my home is my responsibility. I enjoy being independent.
We need to downsize our army and marines. They should all be reserves. We need our navy and air force so we should maintain them.

Yup, bygone days. The good old days.
Reminds me of USCG Alameda , CA. boot camp. My company was on its way to a record amount of competition award pennants for our company , and we were stuck trying to find a way to improve on our performance in week 8.
