Expect the land of fruits and nuts to be the first to adopt odd/even charging rules for EVs.

Could very well be Texas. The state has been underperforming in the area of energy.

Carolinas is understandable, because of hurricanes, and California is understandable, because it is a state bent of making life hell so it can be sold off to the Chinese for pennies on the dollar.

But Texas has no excuse.

California will but then they will suck it off the grid from other States that don’t have such stupid energy policies. That will spread the shortages around for all of us.

I fully support Texas not being tied into the grid, but it has to be smarter how it does business.

Both TX and CA are heavily dependent on wind power.

Wind has the characteristic that in extreme temperatures, windspeed and output drop drastically

So both these states have a power source where the more you need it, the less it produces. Brilliant !

CA may have done it for green bullshit reasons, and TX for goofy libertarian efficiency/cost minimization - but regardless of teh ideology, the effect is the same.

It's going to be 96 degrees tomorrow. My wife ordered a Philips tower fan 5000 series CX5535 because all we currently have is a small fan. Thing was dropped off on a pallet. A heavy wooden pallet that I had to drag to the street. My FIL bought an indoor air conditioner that is being properly installed today.

I bought plastic ice cubes that contain water so I can place them individually (instead of a large ice-tray) in our freezer (which isn't very large).

At this very moment in Texas:

41.3% of electricity is being generated by natural gas, 35.3% of electricity is being generated by wind and 15.% of electricity is being generated by coal.

Our desert heat hits California hard this weekend, with a threat of fires.

PGE has pre-warned.

GET OUT !

California will run out of power when Gavin can no longer quietly call the coal and gas powered plants out of state in the four corners area and get his emergency power there!
