An estimated 14 million cases of type 2 diabetes were caused by a poor diet, a recent study published in Nature Medicine found.
Diets that lacked whole grains or had too much refined rice, wheat or processed meats were linked to the disease.
Those that included overconsumption of fruit juice or insufficient amounts of non-starchy vegetables, nuts or seeds also had some impact on diagnoses, though not as much.

Then why isn’t everybody in China diabetic? They eat piles of white rice.
Can elderly people who are healthy, physically active, and not overweight, develop Type 2 diabetes?
My impression - that is very rare.
The pancreas only has so many squirts of insulin it can put out in its lifetime.
It’s just a matter of how quickly you want to wear it out.
“Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas fails to produce enough insulin, impeding the body’s ability to regulate and use sugar as fuel.”
WRONG - that was debunked several decades ago when they were finally able to measure insulin concentrations in humans (not easy as it’s very, very, small). They found that there was TONS of insulin (relatively speaking) in people who became diabetic - the problem was that the cells no longer responded properly to the insulin and would not draw glucose (sugar) out of the blood at the rate needed to keep glucose levels under control.
Eventually, after years of huge insulin production, the pancreas burns out, and only then are you also short on insulin production, but for Type 2’s, it’s the inability of the cells in the body to process insulin properly that leads to the diagnosis of diabetes.
Sure be nice if they could find a reporter that knows the above little factoid if they’re going to be writing articles on the subject.
.
Yeah, type 2 is an inflammatory disease, not organ malfunction.
During WW II, Type 2 diabetes largely disappeared in the UK.
Food was rationed, especially sugar.
I took a DNA test... It said I was prone to type 2 diabetes... Turns out... I have type 2 diabetes. Go figure. BTW... I also weigh 120 lbs... So it has nothing to do with my weight.
90+% of your health is related to your genetics. You really can’t do too much about it.
When it comes to health, diet, not genetics, is everything. We did not evolve to be constantly sick. Low carb eaters rarely, if ever, get type 2 diabetes. If you have it, diet will usually cure it in short order.
You don’t cure diabetes with diet. You can do work arounds with certain avoidance, but not cure it.
Bullspit! They’ve been overusing glyphosate since the 70s when this crap all ballooned out of control. Monsanto doesn’t want to give up the golden goose, and the pharmaceutical industry is rolling in cash at our expense.
They list about 10 causes.
I think they really don’t know.
We are in disagreement. Type 2 can indeed be cured by proper diet. I can send you links and references if you wish.
The cause(s) of type 2 can either or diet/genetics.
Genetics is a major factor. Diet is a major factor.
Type 2 Diabetes is absolutely reversible with the proper diet.
Here is one trustworthy source of my contention. There any many.

My 99 y/o mother who consumes more than a fair amount of sugar and carbs every day would disagree with you. The woman has amazing genes. And she’s still kicking a** every day.
It’s an ad.
That is wrong. The symptoms are reversible. The underlying condition is still there if someone abandons their workaround diet.
