National Service is what will happen, it is popular and even gets pushed here at FR, I think the left won’t rest until all Americans are almost entirely raised by the government, from toddler age through at least early adulthood.

Yes you do, the teens and 20 year olds will comply rather than go to prison, lose college eligibility, lose legal rights as felons and future employment etc.

Not many who are drafted choose to go to prison for years, 19 year olds are not as set in their ways as you think.

The drafted 19-year-old grudgingly goes off to basic training, starts getting in shape with muscles, getting paid and making good buddies, and feeling like a man, and adjusts to being a new man in a new adult world and buying a new car while wearing a spiffy uniform with merit badges on it that he is proud of.

The average young guy grumbles, makes bold statements about what he won’t do, and then suddenly finds himself happily married with a kid, or being a young corporal and telling other males what to do, or working in the construction job he said he would never work in, or listening to his new bitchy office manager telling him not to be late again.

I’m thinking that the US might go the way of other countries that the young people have to do 2 years of military service as part of their education. I could see some people trying to get this implemented.

Straight white males, Hispanic males and Black males are the people that end up in the Marines and Army Rangers. The people that actually do the front line fighting along with Special Forces.

Most people in the Army are in support positions. Just like most people in Air Force and Navy are in support positions. A very small percentage actually shoot a gun, fly a helicopter, plane or are in a tank crew.

A buddies son went to Iraq as a air traffic controller. He never stepped outside the air base on the outskirts of Baghdad. If he left the base, it was on an airplane to Kuwait. I asked him once: "So, your entire year in Iraq you never step foot outside of the base? No, he said. That is the job of the Marines or Army Rangers.

with Army mandatory training now including training Army personnel to know what to do in such scenarios as when a soldier who was "assigned" a biological gender at birth says he/she identifies as another gender, and lives as such in off-duty hours, but is not requesting to be treated as such while on duty, versus if such later requests to be identified as according to their chosen gender during duty hours, and/or experiences increased distress relating to his/her gender identity;

while working to rid the military of “extremism”

such as the head of the US Space Force unit being fired and put under investigation for criticizing Critical Race Theory

And the Army dropped grenade throwing as a requirement to graduate because new recruits could not throw far enough. “We are finding that there are a large number of trainees that come in that quite frankly just physically don’t have the capacity to throw a hand grenade 20 to 25 [82 feet] to 30 meters."
