That could be a sign of how Mr Trump's presidential rivals handle a possible arrest and criminal trial for falsifying business records and state campaign finance law violations.
But even oblique attacks risk attracting Mr Trump's attention - and ire. And it wasn't long before the former president fired back at Mr DeSantis.
"Ron will probably find out about this sometime in the future when he's unfairly and illegally attacked by a woman (or possibly a man!) with false accusations," he posted on his social media site, Truth Social. Mr Trump later deleted the post and replaced it with a lengthier response. His campaign team also sent out a press release criticising what they painted as a tepid response from the governor.
Mr DeSantis had been under pressure from Trump supporters to defend the former president and denounce the prosecution ever since Mr Trump speculated on Truth Social that he would be arrested on Tuesday.
"Pay attention to which Republicans spoke out against this corrupt BS immediately and who sat on their hands and waited to see which way the wind was blowing," Mr Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr, tweeted on Sunday.

Mixed in with all that was accusing DeSantis of fooling around with underage girls, his supporters filing an ethics complaint against DeSantis, selling BS trading cards, etc...
Trump quite often is his own worst enemy, trading personal insults back and forth is stupid for both of these guys, save the personal insults for Biden’s cognitive decline, etc.
As opposed to the Trump University guy who only hires the best people but appears to have hired an entire den of snakes in 2016?
I hate Libs but at least they hang together for the most part, Republicans tear at each other and waste opportunity.

The republican party was infiltrated by rats well over four decades ago. We have to fight those dirtbags (eGOP) off first before we ever get to focus on the demons. It's easy to proclaim, "I'm a republican". It's even easier to run as one then instantly after an election turn into a Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan. Do you really believe either of those are republicans? Lindsey Graham , Mitch McConnell, McCain. Do you think they are/were republicans? The real list is hundreds of rats over the last 40+ years that got away with calling themselves republicans to get elected.
You know what is even easier? Being fooled by these people. Easier yet? After they expose themselves, we have to vote them back in or the demonrat will win. The uni-party was born from this infiltration.
Um. Trump just called Stormy Daniels a “horse face” yesterday. I was willing to overlook the fact that he called Carly Fiorina a horse face back in 2016, although it made me very uncomfortable as a woman.

If DeSantis wants to ever win the White House he’s going to need most of the Trump voters...and I don’t see his elbows at Trump as useful in that regard.
Perhaps he was forced into saying what he did after he came out on Trump’s side in wanting the US out of the Ukraine War, as that had to anger the crap out of his big-money donors.

Trump is just a loose-cannon childish big-mouth insult machine.
His fans act like he’s such an innocent put-upon child or pure gentleman who has been so unfairly attacked, but truth is he almost always dishes out first, guns ablazing.
They also think this “direct” talk (insults) indicates being “tough”.
Trump is an ass; a privileged, entitled ass, and we’re supposed to ignore what he does and what his background is (hypocrisy compared to times past). I can do that as far as what choice am I given, but he’s not my favorite “conservative”.

Why Trump is “tough” for personally insulting and attacking people in public, endlessly, but DeSantis is “snide and insulting” for a veiled comment months later?
My understanding is it isn’t “paying a porn star”, but allegedly using campaign funds for same.
That’s true, its using campaign funds funneled thru a lawyer to payoff Stormy Daniels who was/is a porn star.
Everyone up until now who has looked into the matter says there is no illegality involved.
That was DeSantis’ position a few days ago. And his supporters here said as much. And it was a legitimate position for him to take … but then he DID respond, even though nothing has changed as far as the facts of the case or the legal proceedings are concerned.
This forum isn't about making sense, or cogent arguments, it's about making schoolyard accusations to an echo chamber. People see what they want to see. Nobody here is getting convinced of anything. Sometimes that can be fun, sometimes you realize the futility of trying to make it any more than that.
He also insinuated that DeSantis is gay. Sorry, he is over the top, out of control ,undisciplined and cannot win again.
