OLYMPIA — A bill that would strip single-family zoning regulations from neighborhoods across the state to allow duplexes or fourplexes to be built passed the Washington state House of Representatives late Monday.
The measure, which passed 75-21 with bipartisan support, is aimed at alleviating the housing shortage by encouraging builders to put more people into existing city neighborhoods rather than encouraging urban sprawl.
The bill requires cities between 25,000 and 75,000 people to allow two units per lot anywhere and four units on lots within one half-mile of a bus stop .
Cities with more than 75,000 people or with a continuous urban area with more than 275,000 people — such as Spokane and Spokane Valley — would have to allow four units per lot anywhere and six units per lot within a quarter mile of a bus stop.

You will not be able to enjoy the fruits of your labors. If you buy a nice single family home in a nice neighborhood, the bastards in Olympia just gave your developer “friends” the right to tear down the house across the street and build FOUR units that will probably house not-so-nice people.
Tear-downs probably aren’t likely to happen in Washington state, but here in California, 50 - 100 year old houses are torn down all the time, usually to build McMansions. But the developers will smell more money to be made by putting four units on a quarter acre lot and that will be the trend.
Just require communal barracks, with all-gender bathrooms, showers, and bed rooms.
Include kiddie-porn chambers in the basement.
To save the environment, also forbid clothing & shoes...

All of what you said and more. I do live in a neighborhood that has mixed use, but a very small area and so far not anti-white. My neighbor is a black army vet who loves opera and organized bible classes at our senior complex, he’d be welcome anywhere. A couple of Muslims nearby, the women and kids are sweet, the men are scary. What we do not need and might not be able to absorb are a bunch of @%$#@ illegals selling drugs.
I’m encouraging my neighbors, especially the women, to buy little pistols and learn how to use them. They’re horrified. But I tell them that when I got my license to carry, everyone waiting in line was a woman. (Just like me).

Well on the bright side, living in Eastern Washington, this should jack up my single family home value about $200K.
Of course they will jack up my property taxes and smile.
This is very troubling.
Destroying the suburbs is what this is all about. So the people who fled the decrepit, crime-ridden cities will have nowhere to go to be safe.
No one takes transit anymore. Covid killed downtown business centers, and taking a bus to work died with it.
Cascadia followed by Mt Rainier would solve the problem.
