It worked at Alabama for a while, until the defensive linemen started weighing 350 pounds and ran a 4.4 40.
Watching the first video what really made the wishbone dynamic and nearly unstoppable was a fast athletic QB. If you ran the wishbone in the NFL your QB would get killed, nowadays QBs are protected but if they were considered runners defensive players would give no mercy and your QB would get drilled on every option play.
The wishbone would work in the NFL as a special play package, like the wildcat. It would work because other teams are not prepared for it. The problem is having the personnel to run the wishbone.
It was great for OU back in the day. We kicked some ass. Now we are crap and always will be in the SEC.
Topic for an essay.
As a man, I mostly detest professional sports. Yet I am forced to look at box scores, standings, and statistics so that I am not totally clueless in the nearly nonstop talk of pro sports among us men. Yes, I am aware of the Bruins winning 10 games in a row. Yes, I am aware of Lebron James recently setting some sort of scoring record. If I did not know these things, I would be suspect as a man in some way.
Yet women can blissfully ignore all of this and they are considered adorable when they strut into a living room full of ball-capped men watching a football game, reclining on couches, with a plate of shrimp and scallops to serve to them, only to ask, with all innocence...
"What is a touchback?"
A man asks that and he loses his man card instantly.
More like until Paul Bryant died and the guy who took over didn’t want to hear about it. Bryant won two national titles with it in those last four or five years if memory serves.
I miss the Wishbone.
If they made me the Czar of College Football, first thing I do is bring back the Big Eight and the Southwest Conference.
Does anyone run the draw play anymore?
The wishbone would work in the NFL
Probably until your marquee quarterback was hit by a linebacker a few times.
1970s University of Texas would run that play all day long, having Earl Campbell as your first option is pretty nice. You run a play 85% of the time you get pretty good at it.
How many wishbone quarterbacks successfully transitioned into the NFL?
It was a better world when College Football wasn’t merely an NFL Farm system.
Good plan. Be sure to send me a ballot.
And Johnny “Ham” and Johnny “Lam” Jones.
BFL but never the NFL
Don’t forget Johnny “Jam” Jones.
I knew there was a third but I couldn’t remember the name.
Would you also make the Big10 match their teams with their fingers because they have problems counting?
