The Speaker of the House can be chosen by a plurality - but we may have to wait awhile.

...

In two instances the House agreed to choose and subsequently did choose a Speaker by a plurality of votes but confirmed the choice by majority vote. In 1849 the House had been in session 19 days without being able to elect a Speaker, no candidate having received a majority of the votes cast. The voting was viva voce, each Member responding to the call of the roll by naming the candidate for whom he voted. Finally, after the fifty-ninth ballot, the House adopted a resolution declaring that a Speaker could be elected by a plurality. 1 Hinds Sec. 221. In 1856 the House again struggled over the election of a Speaker. Ballots numbering 129 had been taken without any candidate receiving a majority of the votes cast. The House then adopted a resolution permitting the election to be decided by a plurality. 1 Hinds Sec. 222. On both of these occasions, the House ratified the plurality election by a majority vote.

This whole thing is getting ridiculous. I understand the message, but I really want to get to law making and government oversight

And that is the attitude that got us into the swamp in the first place.

Hey! It doesn’t matter just vote for something and let’s get on with it.

This is democracy (little d) in action. Instead of the conservatives giving up, McCarthy should just not put his name forward again and move out of the Speakers Office

I do not understand why ONE VOTE session is not enough. Maybe we voters need the same. Rats know how to do it!

Well said, and I absolutely agree.

Bull crap. This is not how democracy works. This is how a few people stop democracy.

I voted for my House rep to represent me in the House and to carry out his duties in my stead. He can’t do that now because of this mess created by someone else’s rep. In fact, other than these few, all of the country’s business is on hold. Again, that’s not democracy.

Let’s see what happens. Because right now the House is doing nothing on the immigration crisis, deficit/debt, and the investigations into government corruption. We are watching a tantrum.

Expediency? I have waited since 2018 for the GOP to get control of Congress. I have watched BS investigations, impeachments, out of control budgets, a speaker tear up a SOTU, and a squad of leftists slander and defame me for four years. And your solution is not to get the country back on track but that we watch this nonsense?

>>I have waited since 2018 for the GOP to get control of Congress.

I’ve been waiting for PATRIOTS to get control of Congress. McConnell, McCarthy and all the GOPe Judases are just going to present their rumps to the Rats and advance the commhnist agenda. Is it really so much to ask for a SOTHOR who fights communists rather than conservatives?

What laws??

The ones that will not come up for votes in the Senate??

The ones that will not get signed by Bidumb??

The only thing they really can do now that omnibus was sharted on the American Taxpayer, is investigations, which will do what??

This is a fight worth letting play out.

Not every legislative act is opposed or difficult to get through. That said, I’m all for political theatre, but it needs to end. This has run its course.
