This past week here in Central Missouri has been mostly gray and a bit damp, but we’ve received no appreciable amount of rainfall. The sun popped out for awhile yesterday which made for a nice day to get some chores done outside. Weather guessers are saying there’s a good chance for thunderstorms here tomorrow so maybe we will get a drop or two then.
The water is down so far that I had to use the tractor to put the little boat into the pond yesterday so I could pull the deep diffuser out for the winter. I gave it a good scrubbing and reset it shallow to maintain a bit of open water when the weather gets cold.
Spent a little time in the greenhouse yesterday reseeding the stuff that croaked while I was laid up with the covid. The salad stuff I put in the planter beds is starting to look like something. The turnips aren’t super happy but the lettuce, radishes, and spinach are doing well. Wish I’d gotten it going a couple weeks earlier than I did. I’ll know better next time.
I still need to pick up some lumber to frame the ends of my tunnel so the plastic will stay in place when the wind blows. If I can get that accomplished I’ll be able to get a serious jump start setting out my plants come spring.
I spent most of the afternoon yesterday cleaning up my workshop. I’m determined to finish up fixing on Mr. Clarence this winter so I can get him out of there and put him to work. Now that I can actually get to him that will be easier to accomplish.
In between the cleaning I hung up a few more 4’ LED light fixtures and repaired the outside porch light. It was one of those motion detector fixtures from Lowe’s. Those things are not worth the money. The motion detector bit craps out in less than a year, if it ever worked at all. I got tired of fighting with this one so I rewired it to just come on and stay on when I flip the switch.
Glad you are both feeling better. We each have a good supply of bandanas for handkerchiefs. Never cared much for kleenex.

Need prayers - extremely high risk, but no quality of life if not fixed. He wants surgery - long, serious talk with anesthesiologist.
I keep a box of super-soft ‘Puffs’ in reserve for just such emergencies. One of my few indulgences. ;)
This is going to be so rough on all of you. I’m kind of surprised they’re doing anything at 99+, though I remember you telling me living to over 100 runs in your family, so there’s that!
Okay, everybody - he made it!
It was a rough day - surgery wasn’t until 1:00. When the anesthesiologist came to talk to us, he had the Echo results and dad has developed another serious issue that will be terminal eventually, if the heart issues don’t get him first. This ramped the risk of anesthesia/surgery pretty much through the roof and there was a not insignificant chance he wouldn’t make it off the operating table.
Talked to dad (with anesthesiologist present) and told him the surgery was really risky, did he want to do it? Of course, he did and frankly, with his broken hip, he was between a rock and a hard place. There was no quality of life for him if he didn’t have it fixed - all he could do with it broken was lie in bed in one position, doped up on morphine & oxycodone for pain management.
Everything went fine - Ortho happy with the leg “fix”. Rehab will be slow. Dad was pretty goofy, still under the influence of anesthesia and morphine ... “I need my canes!” I told him NO more canes (he uses a walker, but carries his canes everywhere he goes, even on the golf cart).
PT starts today ... sitting up, they’ll probably stand him on the leg, needs weight bearing. No walking around the house yet - will be 6 weeks or so before he can be “active”. Waiting for surgery, I arranged a ramp for the house - we’ve needed one for 2 years and he’s been stubborn about it, but it will just have to be his 100th birthday present.

2 weekends ago I carved out what will be the raised beds by using rhe skid steer to rip out the grasses and a shit ton in rock.
Six, 75’ x 6’ (will be 4 foot wide when built but the skid steer blade was 6 foot wide)
The soil is a mess of rock and clay. I don’t have 12 years to mess around with amending the soil until it is the way I like it.
So, I got a boradfork and worked on the worst row all last weekend.
This Friday I am bringing in a massive amount of garden soil and from a reputable biz.
The lady who maintains all the flowers in downtown recommended this company because they get their garden soil from someone who gets their compost hot enough to burn off all the weed seeds.
I got a bunch of soil amending friendly cover crop seeds which will get planted in about 6 weeks.

That’s a relief! Will he be staying somewhere for his PT and recovery? That’ll give you some time to get the ramp installed.
Put a big BOW on the ramp for him, LOL!
If it’s any consolation, it’s gray and overcast pretty much all over the USA these days.
We ran errands this morning; settling in for rain, snow, sleet, hail and pretty nasty winds.
Glad I don’t have to go any further than the barn this week. :)
Progress!
It started raining here sometime during the night and hasn’t stopped yet. By the looks of the radar it’s mostly done for my little corner of the world. It could rain here for a week without causing any flooding. It’s time to be out on the Missouri River fishing for giant blue catfish, but the water is so low that the boat ramps are unusable.
Wow!! She’s really going strong! Mine is more red and always reminds me of lobster or crab claws. I moved it back to its previous spot a day or two ago, as you suggested. For all I know, she may decide to bloom sometime in January. We will see.
Thanks all. Passed the drug test today, which I wasn’t worried about. Physical Thurs morning and orientation, paid, Thurs afternoon. Start work Saturday. Will be Sat/Sun/Mon, 12 hour shifts. Following week will be two 12s, day off and two 12s which adds up to 48 hours so 8 is overtime pay on those alternating weeks.
