For a long time I have found it hard to beleive that Polynesians would spend thousands of years island hopping eastward only to stop at Easter Island.

When the Polynesians found that Easter Island was full of toursits they stopped coz it was good money selling trinkets and giving tours to them..
Maybe they came from the east, South America! Ever read Kon-Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl?
He made several voyages to prove such voyages could be done.
