The savvy DeSantis is far more appealing than Trump to independent voters like me
NY Post ^ | Jul 26 2022 | Adam B. Coleman

The concept of America First embodies the American people’s aspirational goals to see policies that primarily benefit them, especially in an era when it feels as if they are being overshadowed by special-interest groups, corporate lobbyists and foreign agendas. It’s undoubtedly linked with President Donald Trump, but the question remains for the 2024 election: Can this idea thrive with someone else’s leadership?

Did you ever consider you could have both with a little patience?

People seem to think Trump is not vulnerable in a GOP primary. But that’s only true if his opponents are coming from the establishment/liberal side of the party. The things they criticize Trump for - his “uncouth” style and his tarries against China - are popular with Republican voters. Trump is only vulnerable if he’s challenged by a MAGA candidate who points out that Trump dropped the ball on the MAGA agenda and appointed too many swampsters. If Desantis runs, he could be Trump by reminding people that Trump didn’t build the wal - so we have masses of caravans crossing without obstruction. And Trump hired Chris Wray who heads a corrupt weapon used FBI. And Trump let Fauci and Scarf shut down the country ruining couples businesses and destroying peoples lives.

Establishment candidates don’t have a problem with those policies and appointments, so they won’t use them against. But a MAGA candidate like Desantis could wield those Trump failures with devastating effect

A slew of ads asking “Why didn’t you fire Fauci?” Would make Trumps primary polls drop real fast.

More Never-Trump garbage from the usual suspect.

Get lost with this divisive BS.

First president Trump in 2024-2028, then president DeSantis 2028-3036! That should make all the independents happy.

Who are “we” and why are “we” wondering such a thing?

Without putting our country first, the country won’t survive.

Guess you haven’t been looking at Trump’s poll numbers.

And no; people know how deep the swamp is and would not respond to cheap shots like “why didn’t he fire Fauci” or this or that other bureaucrat.

“Why didn’t you fire Fauci?” is hardly a cheap shot. It goes to Trumps inexcusable empowering of that troll , in a way that devastated millions of lives. If Desantis runs ads with banrupted small business owners asking Trump why he stuck by Fauci - and he did- Trump’s primary campaign could be a short one. True believers like you won’t be swayed, but average voters aren’t guided by cult of personality. Trump kept Fauci front and center, and he defended the lockdowns - and even criticized governors who started to open up when Fauci said it was too early. This actually pisses Desantis off, which is a reason that he might surprise people and throw his hat in the ring.

Does savvy really work in DC? Imho what works is a hammer. Donald has no tact…. No desire to be politically correct. That’s what makes him unique and effective.

“ That’s what makes him unique and effective.”

Problem is, he wasn’t effective at most of the MAGA agenda. He hired people who opposed it, and he let opponents in Congress block it. Result: we have hundreds of thousands of migrants crossing where Trump didn’t get the wall built.

He was good on foreign policy, I admit. But his big “achievement” domestically was signing the Mitch-Paul Ryan tax cut for big, woke corporations. That wasn’t what MAGA was supposed to be about.

Rationalized like a true weak thinking liberal.

You must think that the swamp reveals itself openly all the time. Very few thought Mike Pence to be the RINO that he is until November 2020, for example. Firing Fauci would merely have resulted in a clone of his taking his place.

You’re fabricating things now. Trump was the one who insisted that left-wing states open back up when it was clear that they were keeping things locked down to increase the hardship.

I guess independent voters better join a party and quit pretending they’re above and superior to ‘rough & tumble’ party politics.

By the time this chump blinks, Trump will have the 2024 Republican nomination wrapped up.

What makes it even sweeter is the ‘know nothing’ independent voters can’t stop it from happening.

I doubt know about that. He was a Paul RINO lieutenant in Congress and a RINO governor. Pence’s mainline GOP stripes were well known in 2016.

If Trump runs in 2024, I’ll vote for him.

If Trump does not run, and DeSantis runs, I’ll vote for him.

I won’t let anyone trick me into saying a negative word about either of these great men.

DeSantis is NOT a Neo-Con. You sound like a flipping moron when you call him one. It may not be his time yet, but don’t disrespect him like that.
