Can someone explain this talking point liberals are pushing that the FL/Disney kerfluffle might raise taxes on Florida residents, as police, fire, and other "infrastructure" services would need to be provided by local/city forces?
Is this a legitimate consequence of the legislation, or of this just typical liberal fearmongering?
I’m not so worried about what the media says in general, as I know (most of) the true story... but I fear those who might not be so deeply connected in politics might be swayed by stories like this...
republicans have spent decades catering and pandering to those that don’t pay attention and, in the process, have sold our souls to the devil. I absolutely positively do NOT care about people that don’t pay attention and if we led like we were supposed to those in the mushy middle would probably get wind of it and like it.
It’s kind of like the sorry excuse to keep abortion alive by pretending it will negatively affect those raped or the welfare of the mother. Just a lie to keep the wicked going.
In an interview with the FL Speaker of the House, he explained that Disney's debt can't be transferred to the taxpayers, and that there will be negotiations with Disney on how, exactly, they unwind the corporate control of the Reedy Creek Improvement District and phase over county (public) oversight. IOW, there are still issues outstanding that you, me, and the public won't know yet. The possibility of the public absorbing Disney's corporate debt seems to be a canard. There may be cost of enforcement and oversight that may covered by getting Disney back on the tax rolls, but all of that will be negotiated based on the comments I heard.
I actually don’t see how taking away a tax burden hurts Disney. It may or may not punish the people in the impacted counties w/ an increased tax burden. Let’s see what the state ends up doing about the tax burden. But right now, the county taxing authorities have indicated property owners are on the hook.
There you go!
Clouding the issue with common sense and logic.
Sheeesh!

I haven’t seen that. Who did he say would pay the debt?
Senate President says they will take up issues next term.
According to covenents, bonds would default throwing Reedy Creek into bankruptcy.
Orange County Tax collector says county would be responsible for debt.
If Epstein didn't kill himself when he didn't kill himself he'd be worried too.
There are many more steps involved to dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District, so look for litigation and amendments to the recent act. Many moving parts before any debt is resolved.
The $64 question is how much of the $1B of corporate debt is for infrastructure (roads, sewage, electric grid, etc.) or debt on improvements to typical private property items such as new amusement rides, exhibits, buildings, etc.) The latter is not debt that the counties would incur. My estimate is that the vast majority of the $1B is exclusively Walt Disney and will not be transferred over to the counties.
