He was a good dog
01 February 2002 | Me

Nando (racing name KL Fernando) March 13, 2008 - January 31, 2022

He was a good dog and my best friend for over 10 years. I adopted him November 14, 2011 after he retired after a lackluster racing career, winning only 3 races. Although he was retired, he quickly raced into my heart. He was a "bounce", having previously been adopted and returned for potty problems in the house. During his time with me he grabbed a bag of egg noodles from the cabinet and ate them, dragged a bag of flour into the living room and opened it, took a bag of powdered sugar into my bedroom and shook it like a chew toy, destroyed many stuffies, pillows, comforters, coats, books, and shoes, and turned my backyard into a moonscape. Not once did he have potty problems in the house. Until recently when old age crept up on him. It was a good 10 years, but way to short. I miss him dearly.

Awww...so sad, but so wonderful you gave him a good life despite his mischievous ways. I’m sorry he’s gone for you. Best to all.

So sorry to hear of your loss. We unexpectedly lost our 12 year old wiener dog Princess Pocahontas a couple months ago. We are still broken hearted and miss her so much every day. She was with us basically 24 hours a day. She hated being alone, so we took her with us basically everywhere.

The best song after losing your good dog...

“Goldie’s Last Day”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9t-2KLt-rk

[Intro]
(Goldie! Goldie!)

[Pre-Verse]
Puppy love, puppy love
Yes, she gave all she had
Not like a brother or sister
More like a mom or a dad

[Verse 1]
We never asked her, never gave her a choice
We just barked out commands
“Sit, stay, don’t beg, stop licking my hands”
Those days are gone now
I wish Goldie could come out and play

[Chorus]
Goldie’s last day, Goldie’s last day
If a picture paints a thousand words
There’s nothing left to say
Wish you could have been there for Goldie’s last day

[Verse 2]
She was eleven to you and me
What’s that in dog years?
Seventy-seven, that’s more than eleven
She outlived her peers
Talk around town is that Goldie passed away
[Chorus]
Goldie’s last day, Goldie’s last day
If a picture paints a thousand words
There’s nothing left to say
Wish you could have been there for Goldie’s last day

[Verse 3]
We are confident
That this incident
Was not an accident
(As per our investigation)
Confident
That this incident
Was not an accident
We are confident
That this incident
Was not an accident
(She never missed a vaccination)
The incident
Was not an accident
(Aww!)

[Outro Chorus]
Ooh, Goldie’s last day
Goldie’s last day
If a picture paints a thousand words
There’s nothing left to say
Wish you could have been there
For Goldie’s last day (hmm, hmm, hmm)
Wish you could have been there for Goldie’s last day

I grieve for your loss. I think our pets go to heaven. Hope so.

When my beloved Keeshond died, I cried. That was 14 years ago and still feel a pain in my heart when I see a Kees. Live in an apartment now, so just have a cat.

Hope you get another dog.

“Does it ever get any easier?”

Yes, it does. With time. But there’s always a special place in your heart for beloved pets.

“I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives and I am quite satisfied it is in compassion to the human race; for if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten or twelve years, what would it be if they were to live double that time?”

- Walter Scott

We adopted a second dog (a puppy) mostly because my wife did not want to see me as despondent when we lost our last dog. It’ll help but it won’t get rid of the pain when we lose our current older dog now, who just turned nine. It sucks they don’t live longer.

No.

The pain scabs over but it’s still there, sore and prone to bruising.

The Fragile Circle ~
So sorry for your loss.
Greyhounddata.com has your beautiful black boy.
Having run an adoption program for 20 years and placing 1000 greys in homes, I know well the hilarity and heartache this amazing breed is capable of.
Here’s to the footprints he leaves on your heart ~
