Tired of my vanitys????
I thought FR was supposed to be an open forum to discuss things. I've brought pertinent articles and discussion items to the forefront. To me, what you did was no better than what Twitter and Facebook does on their website. Federal employees and military members deserve to know what's going on, and you shut me down, cancel my posting? Admin Moderator, I believe you have some explaining to do!
What about your dog’s vanities?
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
DOH!
I wasn’t gonna go there...
I've never read them; but your spelling and punctuation could use some help.
"Vanity" was a long-standing term in the publishing industry for self-published books; it pre-dated FR by decades. So it was a natural choice when FR got started. It ain't broke, so don't fix it.
True, but that is not how it is understood most of the time. Most of the time it is seen as “tooting your own horn”. Even if the content is helpful to the community or just someone asking the community for advice.
vanity publishing
n
(Journalism & Publishing) the practice of the author of a book paying all or most of the costs of its publication.
So you are saying that all personal posts are discouraged? And members who support this forum through participation have to buy each “Vanity” post that happens to be personal?
Since participation here has dropped off substantially in the past year is it wise to discourage participation and/or run folks off with petty micromanagement?
As a domain owner myself, Exercising micromanagement too strictly when no real harm was done can be very unproductive and detrimental to the site. You will end up with only 10 perfect “buy each post” users left...
Being too politically correct on minor issues can end up with you stepping on your own toes. It is not good for overall revenue, popularity of the site, or participation.
It makes no logical sense at all.
So, even the very reason for posting your vanity has withered away. Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.
At the very least you owe us all an explanation of the difference between something done in vain and something done out of vanity. You owe us. There are karma prices to pay if ya don’t get to the bottom of it.
It is now considered proper grammar to haphazardly split infinitives.
People who want to remake very inconsequential social conventions in defense of their earlier misunderstandings of them are a boring lot. “My opinion can never be wrong, regardless of its faulty assumptions.” You know the type—the Roseanne Rosannadannas of the party.
I take it no answers to my questions then?
King Solomon! I didn't know you were a FReeper!
wisdom is a defense as money is a defense, but the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.
Ecclesiastes 7:12
Sounds like you need a blog.
Take the matter up with Jim Robinson via freepmail. FR is not a popular democracy. He is the owner of the site, and he makes the decisions about policy.
I’d say it depends on where it was. FR, even with vanities, is about discussing articles, whether self-written or not
Comments can be about anything for the most part. But comments are supposed to revolve around some kind of lead article, story, etc.
That’s my sense, anyway, after about 23 years here.
