Ginny Burton has been sober for nine years.

After struggling with drug addiction for most of her life, Burton got clean in 2012. The mom of three graduated from the University of Washington with her degree in political science in June.

In May, ahead of the ceremony, Burton, now 48, shared one of her graduation photos alongside a mug shot taken in 2005, during "one of the most intense times" of her addiction, Burton told Fox News, at a time when she "had a tremendous heroin habit" and was "smoking a lot of crack cocaine."

Congratulations to her for having the will to pull away from that addiction.
A lot of folks don’t ever make it back to normalcy once they have gone that far. Just as with a former alcoholic, she will always have to stay on guard from retreating to old habits, old ways of coping with the stresses of living.

It's a tough daily battle but it is one that can be won.

Her disclosure of her reliance on exercise and fitness as an aid in fighting addiction sends a positive message to addicts.

Just imagine college admissions interview: “SO, why polysci?” “Well, I’m a recovering heroin addict and thought that a polysci degree would be a step up”.

????
