"Had y’all heard about this?"

Yes I did. An amazing story.

The October 2015 cataclysm in Taan Fiord in Southeast Alaska appears to have been the fourth highest tsunami recorded in the past century, and its origins - tied to the retreat of a glacier - suggest it’s the kind of event we may see more of due to a warming climate..

The new study even bluntly calls it a "a hazard occasioned by climate change."

Why the AGW / CC propaganda?

I remember reading that several decades ago there was a very severe Alaska earthquake, perhaps the ‘70s which drove a tsunami 1,000 feet up a fiord, I think it was later used in a novel plot. Also, when Krakatoa blew, it sent a wave 150 feet high up a valley, killed many in that area, and was dramatically reported by the European official on duty who experienced it with his wife, and his small child who died as a result.

You’re thinking of the 1964 Alaska Good Friday 9.2 R quake.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1964_Alaska_earthquake.

A family member knew a woman who, with her husband, was running from their home when a fissure opened suddenly and swallowed the husband and snapped shut. Disappeared in the blink of an eye. Poor woman was never right.

Scrolling down in your link came to 4 min video....

“The video features USGS geologist George Plafker who, in the 1960’s, correctly interpreted the quake as a subduction zone event. This was a great leap forward in resolving key mechanisms of the developing theory of plate tectonics.”

Didn’t hear of plate tectonic theory until some years later.

The mid-1960s was when the "plate tectonics revolution" revived Wegener's Continental Drift claim.

Well yeah...but I was in my senior year of HS at the time of the quake and had only the three networks, newspapers and National Geographic for info, so plate tectonics and continental drift theories were esoteric subjects not exactly being discussed in available media.

At least not in my car and motorcycles mags...
