The year of the coronavirus was a major disaster for professional sports as every league suffered ratings declines, and lost billions in revenue in 2020.
TV viewership was not off by just a little, either. It was off an average of 50 percent over last year’s numbers. Even though many Americans were stuck at home as their jobs and cities shut down, TV viewership for sports still cratered.
According to Front Office Sports, one of golf’s big games, the U.S. Open, lost 56 percent of its viewers over 2019. Basketball suffered greatly, as well. The NBA finals were down 49 percent over last year. Tennis’ Open also cratered, losing 45 percent over 2019’s games. But the worst of all was Hockey’s Stanley Cup. The NHL’s big game lost a whopping sixty percent over the 2019 championship series.
Thus far the NFL is also cratering, being down at least seven percent over last year. It has been so consistently bad this year that advertisers are starting to rise up to demand concessions for their high advertising spending since viewership has been falling each week.

That’s a fascinating way of looking at it. Ratings are down across the board. Certainly all the kneeling matters, but I think that during the shutdown Americans have discovered that there are other things in life, that big-time sports is not important in times such as these.

I’m personally sticking with old time computer games and not going to spend money on any media, including movies or sports or anything to feed the leftist machine.
They lose billions in viewer revenue. But they’re still doing tge things that got them there. They’re not that stupid.
Florida State University formally aligned itself with the BLM-ANTIFA Cabal this year, and their season was a well-deserved disaster.
If Karma is real, the losers at FSU sure as hell proved it.
The NHL actually does NOT want a Canadian team in the finals. There are no Nielsen ratings north of the border, and it’s the U.S. TV market that drives advertising dollars.
No one wants to be lectured watching a basketball game. That said, without fans at a sports game, it’s not the same. It feels like an exhibition.

There are many DVDs of vintage movies and TV around as well for entertainment.
Pro sports was the opioid of the people but it seems many are freeing themselves from this drug.

Somehow I do not feel sorry about them a little bit. All overrated, overpaid, boring wokes.
I have not watched any sport for like a year, I cannot unwatch them any more. I would if I could!
That’s all this is, enlightened exhibition seasons, teams who win titles this year, it should come with an asterisk.
