The two men died during the so-called second pyroclastic flow, which occurred after the initial eruption.

Someday somebody will unearth Harry Truman from the ashes of Mount St Helens.

You don’t outrun the pyroclastic flow and death comes rapidly.

"Civita Giuliana"

Maybe related to Giuliani?

I visited Pompeii back in 1970. Truly a fascinating place. I have always watched any TV shows about it and find it amusing how the experts opinions of who was what change over the years. Irregardless, if you ever have the chance to go - do NOT pass it up.

Cool. At Herculaneum you have many preserved this way, one of the reasons I like it better.

Herculaneum and Pompeii, bucket list items one and two. I had hoped to go there this past May but you see how that turned out! In Oxford, England last year they had a wonderful exhibit on food in Pompeii including some of the most famous artifacts relating to food, cooking and dining. That only whetted my appetite so to speak.

I thought for sure I would open this thread up and there would be a screenshot from Spartacus with Laurence Olivier and Tony Curtis.

We visited Pompeii on a sweltering July day.It felt like a sauna bath.I'd love to spend time at both Pompeii and Herculaneum on a comfortable spring or fall day...many days,in fact.

Can’t be true. Slavery only affected Africans brought to the Americas

More than likely a white, northern European slave.

I don’t see either victim “face down”. I do wish people could at least be accurate.
