Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is hopeful to secure a Cabinet position within a potential Joe Biden administration, according to a new report.
The report from Politico - a politics-specific news outlet - claims Sanders has an interest in becoming labor secretary if the Democratic nominee wins the upcoming general election. The senator did not confirm or deny the claims, which were first reported Thursday.
"Right now I am focused on seeing that Biden is elected president," he told Politico. "That's what my main focus is."
NBC5 News has submitted multiple requests to Sanders for comment.
If Sanders were to leave his position within the Senate, the current governor would be able to appoint a temporary replacement until a special election could be held.
Gov. Phil Scott, who is running for reelection, noted that there are several moving parts to the hypothetical situation but asserted he would keep the seat within the party until a replacement could be named.

I hear the janitor spot is open...
If Bernie gets the job, hell probably change his title from Secretary of Labor to Commissar of Labor.
And who could blame him?
Trump just quashed that, I’d say, showing Bernie calling out Biden on his multiple attempts at cutting Social Security. Nice of Bernie to stump for Trump. :)
Secretary of Reeducation?
Saw that. “Thanks Bernie.”
I was thinking Capitol shoe-shine boy.
I thought those left the same time elevator operators did.
I would create a new position for him: Secretary of Urinal Cake Replacement.
Cabinet officers will be called commissars then.
Trump should arrange to have Biden told that he won the election, but that the entire Federal Government has moved to Zoom virtual meetings due to COVID. The White House is shut down for similar quarantine.
Joe can begin governing Jan 1 from his basement. He should feel free to start forming his cabinet and meeting on-line. The WH kitchen will send pudding.
Sure Bernie, give democrats another good reason to NOT vote for Biden. They’re not all radical socialists you know? That is why you lost the primary after all.
Im not even sure he would be the most left-wing guy to have held that position. Remember Robert Reich?
So they will keep the seat in the party? Which party? Sanders is an independent. Just sayin’.
The first thing Bernie will want to do is to work a little hammer and sickle in there somewhere.
Whoops! That’s right. Commie Bernie is an independent. Say, how does that socialist/independent thang work, exactly?
Both Biden & Bernie have strongly stated that EVERY JOB in the USA should be UNION....EVERY ONE...
They both want to end Right To Work States.
As a self employed person, they can pound sand.
