Women and minorities hit hardest.
"this ranking takes special care to highlight pizzerias from all parts of the country, as well as female- and Black-owned businesses."
Our two favorite pizzas are as follows:
Wicks in Louisville
Chicos in Moses Lake, WA
What’s the best rated frozen pizza? Asking for a friend.
So independent and strong. /s
The top 100 Pizza places are in a small radius around Manhattan, Brooklyn and Long Island.
The farther you go away from here the worse the pizza becomes.
Though Deblasio and Cuomo might be ruining that.
A joke of a list. New york pizzerias dont start making the list until number 3 and then number 8. New york pizzerias ought to have all 101 spots.
I make my own from sourdough discard and whatever meats and vegetables I have handy.
Still trying to find a perfect NYC style pizza in Silicon Valley - or even as good as they make ‘em in Boston. Nothing really comes close out here, not that I’ve found.
I looked at the article. I wouldn’t even try about 80% of the choices pictured there.
Best pizza I ever had was at Anna’s in Manchester, CT.
When the toppings are not evenly distributed, or not covering most of the crust, I lose interest.
And I don’t want any weird stuff like pineapple, hot-wings-flavored chicken, eggs, guacamole, etc.
Any place with large Italian-American populations at least know how to make something close to a decent pizza. That’s why Connecticut has a lot of them because of the large Italian immigration there late in the 19th Century.
Ha!
During the 1970’s I worked a Leonardo’s Pizza in Gainesville Florida. I was there when several men in 3-piece suits were buying individual slices of our pizza to take with them. They were from Pizza Hut and 6 months later they released their deep dish pizza copied from our pizza.
If you scroll through the list you will see more than a couple pizzas that are visibly burnt. Sorry but there a many better pizza restaurants that will not sell you burnt pizza...
OK, how can they have Lombardi’s at #19 and not have Grimaldi’s on the list at all?
All of the best pizza is made and eaten in New Jersey.
I live here, I would know.
I still miss SHAKEY’S PIZZA!
Frank Pepe’s New Haven should a 3-way tie with Modern and Sally’s. All New Haven a’beetz!
Sally’s (#9) is better than Pepe’s (#1). Although the White Clam is truly a Sally’s tradition, the potato and rosemary apizzas are novelties that are NOT the reason people go to Sally’s. They go for crust, sauce, and traditional toppings.
Good call to include Chicago’s Piece Pizza (#10). I tried Phoenix’ Pizzeria Bianco, and was disappointed. The crust just didn’t do it. If you want a “gourmet” pizza in Phoenix, “Il Forno” on Glendale is a better choice.
It is unconscionable that the cipher “Bar” pizza in New Haven is included because they have dozens of ridiculous toppings when the venerable, legendary “Modern Apizza” (founded 1939) is not even on the list!
I would also like to put in a good word for Giovanna’s in Phenix City, Alabama. It may not be one of the 101 best pizzas in the country, but it is a great pizza in a part of the country where you don’t often find it.
I live in SE Texas. We have a mom and pop pizza place that is owned and operated by a family who moved here from Brooklyn NY. Best around here.
#97 Mooses Tooth Pub and Pizzeria (Anchorage, Alaska)
Eaten here a few times on business trips. Considering you’re in Alaska, it’s a decent pie.
#60 Serious Pie (Seattle, Washington)
No. This place is just too fru-fru and barely recognizable as pizza. It should be #1,0060.
The best pizza I have ever had was in Mola Di Bari, Italy.
Nothing comes close here, so I make it myself. I would love to find a place that makes really good pizza.
The form and taste of any pizza is based on the local preference.
In NYC it’s thin crust, in Chicago it;s Giordano’s deep dish. Midwest has much less garlic than I am accustomed to.
Southwest is more doughy crust. Part Skim Mozzarella vs. Whole Milk Mozzarella.
One is not better or worse...just different and feeds the local taste/texture preference.
