The Daily Meal ^ | Taylor Rock

Pizza is always there for you. At your eighth birthday party with all your friends and that clown, it was there for you. During your late-night college cram sesh, it was there for you. After a long day of work, a hot cheesy slice was there to comfort you — and maybe a bottle of wine too.

Pizza is a staple of American meals, which means it’s pretty easy to come across. It can sometimes feel like there is a pizzeria around every corner, but there’s just something about a great pizza. Here is where to find the 101 best pizzas in America.

No justice, no pizza!

Women and minorities hit hardest.

"this ranking takes special care to highlight pizzerias from all parts of the country, as well as female- and Black-owned businesses."

Beat rated? I am not sure but it is likely a matter of personal taste. I have found that the Signature Select brand is good (sold through various markets like Albertson’s) and Red Baron is decent for something frozen.

The top 100 Pizza places are in a small radius around Manhattan, Brooklyn and Long Island.

The farther you go away from here the worse the pizza becomes.

Though Deblasio and Cuomo might be ruining that.

A joke of a list. New york pizzerias dont start making the list until number 3 and then number 8. New york pizzerias ought to have all 101 spots.

The #21 ranked place looks made for me. Bleeping liberals ruin everything.

I saw this, the image of which immediately caught my attention: #21 Joe’s Pizza (New York City, New York)

Still trying to find a perfect NYC style pizza in Silicon Valley - or even as good as they make ‘em in Boston. Nothing really comes close out here, not that I’ve found.

I looked at the article. I wouldn’t even try about 80% of the choices pictured there.

Best pizza I ever had was at Anna’s in Manchester, CT.

When the toppings are not evenly distributed, or not covering most of the crust, I lose interest.

And I don’t want any weird stuff like pineapple, hot-wings-flavored chicken, eggs, guacamole, etc.

New York Pizza is Primo. Chicago Pizza is great if you like deep dish. All else is a copy of New York. Even when they purify the water to that of the city water. I know a number right here in San Antonio that copy every recipe even the round shape, presented in a square box and eaten in a triangle

I recall one time in Los Angeles I asked someone for a good pizza place and he told me to get on a certain highway and “don’t stop until you hit St. Louis.” It was funny 30 years and still make me smile.

Any place with large Italian-American populations at least know how to make something close to a decent pizza. That’s why Connecticut has a lot of them because of the large Italian immigration there late in the 19th Century.

Ha!

During the 1970’s I worked a Leonardo’s Pizza in Gainesville Florida. I was there when several men in 3-piece suits were buying individual slices of our pizza to take with them. They were from Pizza Hut and 6 months later they released their deep dish pizza copied from our pizza.

If you scroll through the list you will see more than a couple pizzas that are visibly burnt. Sorry but there a many better pizza restaurants that will not sell you burnt pizza...

Ha — that is a good line.

I have a great little hole in the wall Italian diner a couple blocks from me here in AL. I don’t see how a pizza could top theirs, but maybe I just don’t know what I don’t know, never having had the NYC real thing.

RE frozen pizza. The Archer Farms brand at Target is a cut above. Hand tossed crust, ultra short ingredients list, imported from Italy.

As one who recently moved to the NYC area (well about six years ago) I have to agree. Even Connecticut and New Jersey have many really good pizzerias. It must be the water down here.

Stay away from the chains. The local owner-operated ones are the best.
