Nearly 2,500 comments have been submitted to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as part of an initiative launched in late July that saw the organization formally request comments on the resumption of cruising from members of the public.
The request followed the extension of the CDC's "No-Sail" order barring the resumption of cruises from U.S. ports of call until at least September 30, 2020.
The No-Sail order was originally put in place on March 13 as the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic swept the globe and was extended again in April for a period of 100 days. The ruling was further modified on July 16 and extended to September 30 at that time.
The tone of the comments received so far is decidedly pro-cruise. Many commenters say the CDC should be giving lines the chance to operate and to prove their safety measures can work.
Other respondents suggested the real issue for the CDC's harsh treatment of the industry has nothing to do with health and everything to do the fact that the cruise industry, like the shipping industry and many other maritime services, uses so-called "Flags of Convenience."
Given that very little progress on the resumption of cruise has been made on the part of the CDC for the first five months of this pandemic, it is reasonable to expect that it could take the CDC the remainder of the year to issue its own guidance on cruises within the United States, and potentially longer for formal changes to be implemented and cruising restarted.

As I and other Freepers have speculated the CDC is going to delay again, beyond Sept. 30th, the start of cruising in this country because the CDC wants to cripple Cruising. -Tom

We love cruising we had a 2 week Alaska cruise cancelled in June I don’t see cruising coming back this year at all and when it does its going to be a whole new enchilada

Royal Carib has suspended ALL cruises until at least Nov 1 as of Aug 20.
Aw, what a disappointment. I thought this was going to be about car cruises.
Maybe I should explain what that means. In my neck of the woods anyway, a car cruise is an event where many classic cars are parked in one place. It’s usually at a shopping center parking lot.
Then members of the public can walk from car to car, and talk to the owners. Our governor has banned car cruises. I miss my local car cruises.
Really sucks....
What if they allowed people with certified COVID Anti-bodies to cruise?? I’m ready!
To me it is possible for these delays ,where the Cruise lines have no income but plenty of expenses in workers , office space, and crews and cold storing cruise ships,etc. that the creditors that have loaned them Billions of dollars get antsy, and force some lines into bankruptcy before their loaned money is spent by the those Cruise lines.
We could see that play out in the Spring of 2021 when Cruising's future is clearer. -Tom

Problem is there is precisely ONE ship that meets that description (NCL Pride of America).
Well then, the cruise lines can wait, else sell to Americans. Anything that gives a penny, money or assistance, to a foreign company, ships flagged elsewhere, is wrong and must not be allowed to happen.
Maybe it’s just me, but in this context I don’t think cruise should be a verb.
This is heartbreaking! I had happy cruises with my late Mom.
Because of our CDC's erratic and stalling policies on Cruise ships and the possibility of the UN's WHO, another useless organization, the around the world cruises , and there are plenty of them, they are now getting cancelled in early 2021,since many depart in January and no one knows what to expect from health agencies and countries, that early in 2021. -Tom

In 2020 you can always go to a Walmart , but you can't get on a Cruise ship as the goal posts keep moving, and thereby cancelling cruise ship departure dates.

We were supposed to be on one right now in the Baltics. It was cancelled.
We cancelled our normal Christmas cruise a couple of weeks ago.
Next one is planned for February 28, 2021. That one will probably be cancelled also...

I was planning on another Cruise trip to Bermuda in October, but it got cancelled.
No hotel or flights involved; just get driven to the Ship in Boston and off we go to Bermuda, and a car ride home by 11:AM when we return.
Don't know if my wife's health, or mine, will permit going to Bermuda in 2021. - Tom

Cunard Line, a British cruise line that’s part of the Carnival Corporation, announced that it will be extending its pause in operations until March 25, 2021. The cruise line had previously listed November 2020 as its return date.
