Trump signs executive orders on coronavirus economic relief

WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump signed executive orders Saturday for coronavirus economic relief, upending negotiations with Congress after lawmakers failed to reach a deal on Friday.

The executive orders establish a payroll tax holiday through the end of the year for Americans earning less than $100,000 a year.

They also defer student loan payments through the end of the year; continue eviction moratoriums; and extend enhanced unemployment benefits that expired last week, but at a reduced level of $400 instead of the prior $600.

"If I'm victorious on November 3rd, I plan to forgive these taxes and make permanent cuts to the payroll tax," Trump said. "Joe Biden and the Democrats may not want that, they don't want that."

The orders, which Trump announced in a press conference at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, come after talks with Democrats over another round of assistance hit an impasse Friday.

Democrats promised last week to file a legal challenge if Trump acted through executive order to circumvent Congress, which has the constitutional authority to determine federal spending.

Trump brushed off those challenges Saturday, telling reporters "I guess, maybe they'll bring legal actions, maybe they won't. But they won't win."

I’m ashamed of having wanted it.

I dont need it.

I’m not making less.

I don’t have to take the lady out to dinner as restaurants are closed. :)

That’s what money does. Makes you want the govt to waste 2 trillion so you could get a few hundred bucks.

To hell with them.

I’md glad this happened.

“No $1,200? That is unfair to us who pay through the nose for taxes. retired and not working.”

Even if you’re on a fixed income, how have you been effected. I mean other than having to wear a mask. Actual question....

Maybe all government employees should take a 10% pay cut.

Seriously are you that stupid to accuse anyone getting enhanced unemployment benefits as being BLM/Antifa? 49 to 50 million unemployed and all protesters? That’s a pretty libelous statement. Plenty of Freepers unemployed right now. So we all sympathize with the protesters?

Grow the f up. Seriously.

It’s people with that attitude, “I’ve got mine, F y’all” that makes Republicans and Conservatives look like heartless, soulless bastards to the rest of society. And I being Republican and Conservative don’t want that tag.

Unless President Trump is reelected, it seems to be just an “advance”, so we’ll see as far as me personally.

I simply hope this helps those that truly need it.

I can answer your question. I too am retired. I worked hard my whole life and through that I was able to acquire rental units to supplement my retirement income. My tenants who are receiving the extra UI income have stopped paying rent. They are receiving more by not working AND they will not pay rent.
That’s how some of us are affected. Do you think that’s fair? I receive nothing?

That’s the way Im rating it too.

Reality check. Without a second term, we are all screwed.

With one he’s said he’ll make it permanent.

“tenants”

That’s a little different. That’s a deadbeat renter problem. And I’ll grant you it sucks not being able to evict them, and even in the best of times it takes FAR too long.

Now add to that not only do they get UI they have rent assistance funds available.
So, yeah. That sucks.

From the state she only qualified for $130. She did get the extra $600 from the Feds. However, when she did find a job, she filed every week and they deducted what she made from what she qualified for.

She's a teacher and there ain't going back to that. She found a job as a server. In a sense she could have sat at home and made the same amount. But she wanted to do something so found a job as a waitress so they deduct what she earns from what she qualifies for.

I should say she’s a substitute teacher. She’s not getting paid any salary from the state.

“...a substitute teacher....”

I tried that for a few daze in the early 70’s bad economic times. I thought it sucked. Redoubled my efforts to get a more permanent yob.

Today’s activity at that site shows what were Executive Orders and Presidential Memoranda. Cut out the middle man.

Hey, watch it, some of us "government employees" barely make enough to rub two nickels together between pay days.

Actually, I did not. But I don’t doubt that there are some out -of-work lefties doing just that with their stipend.

How about YOU grow up and realize that not everybody uses supplemental money in the ideal way. Just like with welfare, food stamps, WIC, etc.
