Any .40 Hammerless Revolvers?

Posted on 08/01/2020 8:37:21 AM PDT by Mean Daddy

Using Google is about worthless and searching www.gunbroker.com wasn't much better, but is anyone aware of a hammerless .40 revolver? Thinking about getting a new gun but want to maintain the same ammo. Lots of .38 and .357 but wanting something that I can carry in a pocket. Thoughts?

Is there some reason you want to stick with .40, like you already own several thousand rounds?

What makes you think you can carry a .40 in a pocket but not a .38? I had a .38 Smith and Wesson made of their weird scandium alloy. I got rid of it because it was so light, my hand would sting after each shot.

Smith does make a 10mm revolver that will shoot .40 cal. It's a bit big for a pocket gun.

The trigger pull is so heavy you need to use two fingers on it. It’s crazy. I’ve never shot one so I can’t vouch for anything else.

Thanks for the reminder on how much I despised that firearm! I would hardly practice with it due to the stinging effect. I couldn’t hit anything with it either but it was probably because I was anticipating the sting and would do something wrong.

Hell, just pull the trigger once.

20 lb. trigger pull, requires two fingers.......

Thanks. I’ve been watching the prices on these things...going up, up, up. I’ve used Bud’s a couple times.

I'm looking for the 22LR version for the wife.

Get the 357 and load it with 38. Why? because it's heavier. The 38 LCR has a real painful kick to it.

Understanding your’e looking for .40 cal but think about a S&W 340PD. Hammerless 5 round .357 weighs in at 11.4 oz. unloaded. Short barrel and is very accurate.

If at all possible, yes. I have a lot of .40 ammo & in the process of getting my carry/conceal. Have an XD-40 but it’s a big gun to put in your pocket.

I like that gun and looking more an more like getting a .357 or .38. If I’m going to have to use a gun, I want some stopping power.

I don’t know of a .40cal revolver cartridge.

There’s a .41 mag though. And it doesn’t come hammerless. And is not a pocket pistol.

And, of course, there’s the 10mm and .40 S&W ROUNDS FOR SEMI AUTO HANDGUNS.

If you’re interested in a .40 cal wheel gun, consider the GP-100 100 in 10 mm. Like the .357 that will also take .38 cal, you can shoot .40 Cal from the 10mm.. Difference .40 cal S&W is 10mmx 22mm.... 10 mm is10mmx25mm.
Then you can always have the hammer spur bobbed....
How’s that solve your problem....

You can get a S & W hammerless 38 snub nose but it has high recoil and because it has no hammer it is far from accurate for the casual shooter.

Any pistol with a hammer is more accurate when you have time to cock and aim, if you you don't have time then just point and shoot.

Any gun at ten feet is better than a knife.

May I ask why a .38 special is such an unwanted round? I keep hearing “stopping power”. Has anyone looked into the ballistics and stopping power of a .38 +P with defensive hollow point fragmenting rounds?
