VW Polo Driver Flips Car Seconds After Taking Delivery

Which pedal does what again?

Driving off the dealer lot after all the papers are signed and the keys are handed over is a momentous occasion. This is it, you're key to independence (or monthly payments) and even more memories to be had. Just don't screw this up, okay? Don't be like this guy in the video.

The story appeared on Motoroids, an Indian based automotive website, where some background is given on how easy it is to get a license thanks to what appears to be a total lack of proper training and actual enforcement. Basically the system sucks and almost anyone can get their hands on a driver's license without much issue. Hence what happens next.

You have to get the license and learn to drive BEFORE getting the car.

That sucks. As if the car doesn’t depreciate enough once you drive it off the lot.

You are young. I remember dimmer and starter buttons on the floorboard.

I had a dimmer button on the '68 Dart. No starter button, but there was also a floor foot pump to squirt the washer wiper fluid.

Never underestimate the ability of an Indian to screw up something mechanical.

They have cruise control now so you can use your right knee for steering. Left foot is for braking. Right thumb for speeding up or slowing down. Left hand for the horn, flashing the headlights, and controling the radio from the steering wheel.

You nailed it!

“The Italians make BEAUTIFUL cars. They don’t work very well but they ARE beautiful.

The Germans make fabulous cars but they aren’t “beautiful.””

Then how do you reach them? You’d have to bend over to push them; seems kinda awkward.

Seems silly. Why didn’t they put them up on the dash where it’s easier to reach?

We had a 65 Valiant way back.

VW’s had a lever on the floor to switch to ‘reserve’ gas.

Direct connect. No solenoids. Large cables high current.

I attended a nice highschool in Glenview Illinois.
A fellow student received a new Corvette and his drivers license on his sixteenth birthday.

His pals would back it out of the parking spot until he became familiar with the process...

The Illinois Sec of State in charge of driver’s license was later found to have closets full of shoeboxes full of cash???

“The discovery of hundreds of thousands of dollars stuffed in suitcases, an attache case, loose envelopes and, of course, a shoebox within days after the October 1970 death of Illinois Secretary of State Paul Powell remains clouded by confusion and myth.”
It is true that Powell’s estate included $820,000 in cash, mostly $100 bills

“As if the car doesn’t depreciate enough once you drive it off the lot.”

TRUE.
But if drive it long enough the dents and wrinkles become part of the charm.

And no need to worry about door swine in parking lots.
