Millennials Don’t Stand a Chance: They’re facing a second once-in-a-lifetime downturn at a crucial moment.
The Atlantic ^ | April 13, 2020 | Annie Lowrey

Hello, lost generation. The Millennials entered the workforce during the worst downturn since the Great Depression. Saddled with debt, unable to accumulate wealth, and stuck in low-benefit, dead-end jobs, they never gained the financial security that their parents, grandparents, or even older siblings enjoyed. They are now entering their peak earning years in the midst of an economic cataclysm more severe than the Great Recession, near guaranteeing that they will be the first generation in modern American history to end up poorer than their parents.

The Liberals look for victimhood. The Americans look for opportunities.

Yeah, they should all vote Democrat and get rid of the Border Patrol and INS, and get rid of all tariffs! That'll show the Big Bad Orange Man and his right wing supporters!

Good lord it’s been over 10 yrs since the “great recession”, With the longest stretch of growth and prosperity to rival any generation before. Anyone adult who suffered from the recession that didnt get their priorities in order since then will never learn no matter how much free stuff they are given.

Let’s see. Our parents and grandparents survived WWI, the Great Depression, and World War II. Millennials survived a broken controller on their Xbox.

Some of it is pretty tone-deaf.

My younger brother is a Millennial and didnt go to college, and works his ass off for his family. He is having a hell of a time, and is too proud to ask for help. His, and his wife’s job are not “work at home” stuff, but thankfully they still have their income, but this is thing they really didnt need in their life.

I’m still going to offer to help in any way I can.

Better growing up in the Depression? First or Second WW? Spanish flu? Viet Nam? All with the draft in place.

Stagflation in the 70s? Yeah, after Reagan and Volker got things under control we had a rare good period from the mid-80s to the late 90s, not unlike relatively the 50s to mid-60s.

But second golden era of the last century is when Millennials were getting coddled with more wealth and luxury and indulgence than any generation of humanity has ever known.

Mediocre educations and mass indoctrination in a degraded culture wasn’t too helpful, but as been pointed out above Millennials were in smaller families with larger inheritances coming, by far, than any generation before them.

Not having much to lose in the current environment might not be so bad for them, as we’ll look to them/you to pick up the pieces and build our country back up after this.

Given that you’re posting here on FR I take it you have the work ethic and initiative to do well while enjoying renewed purpose through the rebuilding.

Some of it is pretty tone-deaf.

And then they wonder how someone like Bernie Sanders attracts such a following.

The 8 years of Obama sucked the life out of everything. They shouldn’t have voted for him.

On the other hand, my dad graduated high school in 1932 right into the teeth of the Great Depression. By the time that was ending, World War II came along and he found himself in the Army Air Force. He was in his mid 30s when he experienced ‘normal’ times for the first time in his adult life. That generation somehow managed to do all right for themselves.

Obviously, they have no kids or grandkids. Or, they don’t get along with their own flesh and blood.

When inflation hits full force from this magic money and lack of production, they’ll actually have something to complain about.
