The UV lights and/or O3 generator is my plan for the masks. Although I need to review things - the O3 will degrade rubber (like the rubber bands for the paper masks, or the rubber on my half masks). I can’t recall about the UV lights, although I think that is why I bought them as they won’t destroy the rubber.

The O3 is also bad on latex gloves and will destroy them.

One doctor was saying that just over time the rubber bands get too worthless to hold the mask tight. Perhaps grab a big bag of rubber bands at Staples?

There are 18 left if stock and I don't think they will last long. Something else to consider:

Soiiw CH-360T Heat Sterilizer 300W 1.5L w/Timer Disinfection Box Manicure Pedicure SPA Salon Equipment for Sundry Beauty Hair Nail Metal Tools with Handle

The virus can be inactivated at 65C for 15 minutes: Heat inactivation of the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus

I have one arriving. Masks may wear out, however respirator (half face or full) should last a long time if the virus is inactivated. I was concerned about UVC penetrating both masks and filters.

Best.

See my post 607. The below abstract indicates that heating to 150 degrees F for 15 minutes; or 220 degrees for 90 seconds will destroy most viruses, including a coronavirus.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2828525

The efficacy of two heating cycles (90 sec at 103 degrees C and 10 hr at 65 degrees C) used during manufacture of a plasma-derived hepatitis-B vaccine was validated for the inactivation of 12 virus families. A period of 15 min warming up to 65 degrees C had already completely inactivated representatives of nine virus families, ie, poxvirus (vaccinia), picornavirus (encephalomyocarditis virus), togavirus (sindbis virus), coronavirus (mouse hepatitis virus), orthomyxovirus (influenza virus), rhabdovirus (vesicular stomatitis virus), herpes virus (cytomegalovirus), lentivirus (human immunodeficiency virus), and retrovirus (murine leukemia virus). After prolonged heating at 65 degrees C or heating for 90 sec at 103 degrees C, parvovirus (canine parvovirus) and the phage phiX174 were also completely inactivated. Papovavirus represented by simian virus 40 (SV-40) was the most heat-resistant virus evaluated. The infectivity of SV-40 was reduced by 10(4) Tissue Culture Infectious Doses (TCID50) per ml after 90 sec at 103 degrees C, but a marginal residual activity (less than 1.5 TCID50 per ml) was observed. Subsequent pasteurization for 10 h at 65 degrees C did not further reduce the infectivity of SV-40. This study shows that the two heat-inactivation steps used during the production of this vaccine kill a wide variety of viruses that might be present in human blood.

Thanks! See my post 625. I had hoped that learning up on this stuff would be all for nothing. It is obvious that it has now moved beyond the academic.

Someone explain why people are stocking up on water? Unless your water tastes bad and bottled is all one drinks, I don’t understand how extra water would be needed during this virus.

Municipal water is potable because it is filtered and sanitized with chlorine compounds. Pumps, filters and chemical supplies require regular maintenance. If there is a breakdown is supplies for maintenance or trained, healthy staff to do the work, you might have a problem with your tap water.

Much of that tape water ends up in a sewage treatment plant. Maintenance, supplies and support staff apply there too.

granted it’s a squirrel video, but do they have something here? speaking strictly pandemic/epidemic purposes or out in the jungles of Wyoming? (and what is CD 84?)

A Shanghai-based company has developed China’s first N95 face mask that is reusable due to nanotechnology. If treated properly, it can be reused 20 times. Tens of thousands of these masks are currently being produced on a daily basis. It can withstand repeated disinfection by boiling water, alcohol and Chinese disinfectant named 84. From development to mass production took roughly two weeks.

When do you you stay out of the stores and live on what you have

Exactly our question. Florida is monitoring 150 cases, but they won’t say where. We are trying to stay away from crowds but yesterday’s trip to Costco blew that! I don’t think we’re going to wait for authorities to tell us to quarantine before we hunker in on our own, just hard to make the decision. Especially when there’s always something else I think we’ll need.

Just now heard Florida has declared a state of emergency, 2 cases confirmed.. WHERE?

not sure, ncalburt Probably.

We’re fighting time no matter where in the world. Maybe we could put some of those fema trailers to work parked outside a hospital as kind of a staging area/portable ward for suspected until the tests do come back?

Interesting. Markets adjust to need. 3M is ramping up. We were left very vulnerable with globalism and in particular single source globalism.

We did not plan for shortages of PPE supplies. That is why we are looking at sterilization of respirators. You would be surprised how few hospitals have prepared for this or have supplies on hand. Many administrators are becoming nervous.
*************************************************************************************
I’m just wondering-Could your typical N95 mask be sterilized by using ozone? We have about 20 N95 and 20 surgical left from 2014 and never had to use. I had been wondering if they could be sterilized in case we would need more.

I rarely go out during the winter. Hubby makes a run for Bread and Milk and fresh vegetables and fruits about once a week. If we get cases within 50 miles we plan to just stay home.

I don’t plan on using masks unless one of us is sick.

Still early in Italy, but right now the resolved cases are running over 30 % fatal, reported here. Think we saw this in China early. Actually their resolved deaths were running higher than resolved recovered for awhile.

Florida’s first coronavirus cases found in Hillsborough and Manatee counties
The Hillsborough County case is an adult with a travel history to Italy. The Manatee patient is an adult Manatee County resident without a history of travel to restricted countries such as China or Iran.

I just glanced at an article that was about a northern Texas company that makes surg masks - something about it’s running full bore and can’t keep up with worldwide orders.

Push come to shove we could occupy it hahaha
