A Massachusetts man attempting to save his neighbor from a dog attack accidentally shot and killed him with a crossbow, officials said.

Police are investigating the incident as an accidental death, according to a release from the Berkshire District Attorney’s office.

Police from Adams received multiple 911 calls on Wednesday at approximately 12:09 p.m. “for a reported mauling in progress.”

Investigators believe that the man, described as a good Samaritan by the district attorney’s office, heard a commotion coming from his neighbor’s apartment and rushed over to help. The man retrieved a crossbow and shot at one of the pit bulls.

Investigators believe that the bolt struck one of the dogs, went through the door and fatally struck the neighbor who was attempting to barricade himself from the attack. He was identified as Joshua Jadusingh, 27.

Through both the dog and the door. That’s a powerful crossbow. Or a cheap door.

Stupid choice to grab a crossbow rather than a gun. Oh, wait, Massachusetts. Never mind.

I think a point is being missed here.

Not having a gun doesn’t make using a crossbow SANE.

Grab a bat and if you don’t have one, then wait for the police.

NOTHING about using a crossbow is going to end well.

Its why I don’t think it was an accident. The dead guy can’t tell what really happened.

No, I got that. Just taking a swipe at gun control. A bat, club or knife would have worked much better than a crossbow. A pistol even better.

They aint too bad- not any more deadly than a regular bow really- the only diff is it can be drawn to firing position and held there without any effort, so the bow can go off accidentally much easier- so ya gotta be careful once it’s cocked and ready to fire- with a regular bow, you have to draw an hold it and it aint easy to hold, so you do so only when you are ready to fire- so you’re not walking around with a locked and loaded bow that can accidentally go off if something snags the trigger like with a cross bow

Never take a cross bow to a dog fight.

i dunno- lots of people use them for hunting up around us- especially disabled people who love to bow hunt but can’t draw and hold a bow long enough to get a shot off on the deer- it affords them a bit of an ability to hunt if they aren’t too disabled- you almost never hear of crossbow accidents happening- or bow for that matter really- many hunt with them year after year and get their deer for the winter freezer, and never have accidents with them-

In this situaiton above though- yeah, it was crazy as the scene was no doubt very chaotic, intense, fast moving- and a weapon that fires probably wasn’t the best choice- no matter the weapon- like you say, a bat woulda been much better, i think, not knowing the whole story of course- but if the dude was close enough to have been hit, then likely the situation wasn’t good for any fire-able weapon- UNLESS the dude was able to separate himself fro mthe dog with enough distance to make a safe shot on the rogue dog- —

even regular bows can do that- they are very powerful- a cheap metal door, or cheap thin veneer door certainly won’t stop an arrow- even after having gone through the dog- You really have to be aware of surroundings when firing one for sure-

...as Mr. Hardy struggled to fight off the dog, Mr. Laurel picked up the crossbow and fired - hitting Mr. Hardy instead of the dog...

I don’t do any bow hunting (or any hunting for 6 years or so) but I still have my Martin Pantera and I would put it up against any crossbow. I chrono’d mine at 300 FPS and not with carbon shafts.
