The Trump administration on Friday announced plans to roll back school lunch standards originally promoted by former first lady Michelle Obama.
The new standards will allow schools more flexibility "because they know their children best," the Agriculture Department said in press release.
“Schools and school districts continue to tell us that there is still too much food waste and that more common-sense flexibility is needed to provide students nutritious and appetizing meals. We listened and now we’re getting to work,” Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said.
The proposed new rules build on previous steps taken by the Trump administration to roll back the controversial school lunch rules which were championed by Obama as part of her Let’s Move! healthy living campaign and signed into law by former President Obama.

Kids need exercise and calories from real food.
And they have to actually eat it.
My school lunches always had mashed potatoes (or similar starch), gravy, some kind of meat and a veg. And as many freshly baked rolls as you could eat...with butter.
Sometimes we even had goofy pan pizza made with government cheese. Or hot dogs.
And a piece of fruit or fruit salad.
And whole milk.
Real, real similar to a military chow line.
It was good and I loved it. So did most others.
Of course that was the olden days when CA had the best schools in the nation.
And the yeast rolls and corn bread...oh, lordy!
Prison lunch:
Yeah, Buttcrack Hussein was allowed to write his own laws but it’s a travesty for Trump to do his job using tools that he legally has. It’s appalling, it really is.
That’s how it was for me in elementary school in the 70s. High school in the mid-80s is where it all went to crap and I started bringing my own lunch.
I tweeted to Nancy that here glee and zeal at handling all them pens made one wonder if they vibrated...
