Youtube is great for historical clips like this. Here's one from 1966 in Cu Chi, Vietnam with Bob Hope.
Joey Heatherton made an appearance
Here’s the clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHYnb5sRK40
I spent that Christmas at the Rockpile. Got to listen to Hanoi Hannah. She played better music than Cronauer.
Had a good friend write to me when I was in Korea Oct. ‘69 telling me he was going into Army to fly helicopters in Germany, his recruiter “guaranteed it”. Before my reply not to believe him and that most helicopter crews were being assigned to Nam he was on his way to Nam winding up in Cu Chi. He may have seen this show.
I never got an opportunity to see him when I was in Tay Nihn and Song Be with the 1st Cav, 70-71.
Some carry on the tradition ala Gary Sinise.
his recruiter guaranteed it
ROTFLMAO!!
Say what you will about his politics, but Robin Williams was another one who entertained the troops a lot.
I’m spending the next two months in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, visiting every major city from North to South.
Can’t wait to see the places where my friends and relatives fought and several never returned.

and BTW....Merry Christmas and Welcome Home Brother....
“I wanna see fur and early morning dew”....
I went back. Climbed hill 881S at Khe Sanh again. I shouldn’t have done that.
Thanks.
I saw both Bob Hope and Joey Heatherton live, although not in Vietnam. Bob Hope was a great patriot and an extremely funny man. As for Joey Heatherton, I was young enough that I don’t think I could focus on a single word she said.
We would take fire every time we got to that dam Rockpile.
That hill you mention at Khe Sahn where all the antennas were
thats where I was. 298th Signal
You there when that C-130 got hit on the runway?
BUNNIES MAN ... PLAYBOY BUNNIES!!!!
God Bless You.
I caught part of the ‘67 show in Cu Chi standing on the back of an APC, looking over the fence after coming in off the road.
Nothing like half dressed round eyes.
Hundreds of miles of hand dug tunnels in Chu Chi were used by the Viet Cong during the war with thousands of Viet Cong and their sympathizers living in them.
Makes you wonder how many were entertained unknowingly at the USO shows.
