Pelosi Says Articles of Impeachment May Not Be Sent to the Senate

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leaving open the possibility of withholding articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump until she is assured a fair trial in the Senate.

“So far we haven’t seen anything that looks fair to us,” Pelosi said Wednesday after her caucus voted to impeach the president. She was referring to what Democratic leadership plans on doing after the vote.

"No deadline. Impeachment has whatever rules Congress makes for it. It’s purely political.

Of course, since there are no rules, there is no requirement that the Senate wait for Nancy. They can just try the impeachment, declare the President acquitted, and BOOM! Done."

^^ THIS ^^ is what the (R)'s need to realize.

The "articles of impeachment" are public information and manually "sending" the hardcopies to the Senate is not needed, not something required by law or by the Constitution.

Therefore, the Senate states that the House made this an "urgent" issue and therefore the Senate will fulfill their Constitutional role, quickly.

Seeing this depicted as a “power play” by the “seasoned politician” Pelosi is. I am seeing other pundits on Twitter stating that The Senate can rule that the House defaulted and proceed with a vote to dismiss. Can anyone confirm this is the case?

Apart from that, how could this ever benefit the Dems? They are steadily losing support and DJT’s numbers are getting better the longer this goes. How could this be viewed as anything other than an obvious political stunt by all but the completely brainwashed?

The Judicial branch is there, in part, for disagreements between the Executive and Legislative branches. I would think The Donald’s first move would be to sue.

The State of the Union address next month will be kicking ass and taking names.

Remember the shenanigans last year...Nancy reluctant to schedule the SOU for various stupid reasons

Maybe Nancy will say..."I cannot invite an impeached President to the House"

Let her do it.

President Trump can use his platform to remind the country that a SOTU address does NOT need, nor is required to be done, in the House.

He can deliver his SOTU in the Senate...in the White House...at a rally in Timbuctoo or simply send the document to the Congress (which was done in earlier years).

As a matter of fact, he doesn't even NEED to delivery one this year.

Article II, Section 3 states: The president “shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.” The Constitution doesn’t define “from time to time,” by tradition presidents convey that message once each year. The Constitution says nothing about when the president should deliver the information or how he should deliver it.

Why not? There are no more rules. The Dems have shown that whoever is in charge can make up their own rules. This is not addressed in the Constitution, so I say yes!

This was their plan along. Believe I posted such on another thread.
It’s all politics and power. Rats controlled narrative in the house but they cannot and will not let the other side have any ability to control a narrative that is bad for them.

The were always just going to impeach without a Senate trial.

Indeed, they have the last key to their campaign strategy for 2020.

Trial...they don’t need no stinking trial.

We’re in for a very, very long year.

We’re in for a very, very long year.

We will find out at 9:30 ET what is going on. I suspect McConnell will have a trial and give a time for the house managers to show up. If they don't show up, then they vote to acquit immediately.

The impeachment resolution could be revoked by the next GOP House. One House’s actions aren’t binding on a future House.

Sure, but it would be utterly meaningless.

Some here still don’t seem to get it.

The Democrats got what they wanted. At least that’s what they hope.

It’s really not about the Senate Trial at all. It’s about the Presidential Campaign. The sooner we put that into perspective and context the better off we will be.

There’s a whole nation out there that failed civics class regarding this procedure. And the democrats are counting on that ignorance for 2020.

You and I may see it as laughable...we charged him...as a campaign battle cry against President Trump...

But to many uneducated they don’t understand Impeachment isn’t tried and convicted. Of the two previous impeachments...none have ever been convicted.

For all I know, they may not even teach it anymore. It is expected some uneducated people will think this OK. What really bothers me is educated professionals thinking this is OK. This really has the feel of a temper tantrum at a faculty lounge..

Actually, I concur. I was simply assuming the exceptions you raised to be too basic/obvious to justify mentioning them: It would be a logical contradiction to interpret that clause as allowing the Senate to violate the Constitution, or to claim to allow the Senate to break Federal law. The clause was intended to make the Senate the final authority regarding its own procedural rules of self governance, nothing more.
