About one third of young prostitutes in the Paris suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis are under 15 years old. Some of them are said to be only six years old, according to a local aid organization. The département is known for its particularly high Muslim population and its no-go zones, downplayed by the French authorities and affectionately known as the "sensitive urban area".
The observatory for violence against women in Seine-Saint-Denis published a study on underage prostitutes on Tuesday. It examined 19 lawsuits before the Juvenile Court of Bobigny and around 40 reports from the French child protection agency.
The sex-providing children were between the ages of 6 and 17 years. 89 percent of them had previously been victims of physical abuse and 40 percent of sexual abuse. 61 percent of mothers of minors said they were themselves victims of abuse.
According to France, Ernestine Ronai, head of the NGO, hopes to be better able to protect children in the future through the results of the study.
"The life of these girls is marked by violence," said Ronai. The abuse leads to school failure, which in turn paves the way for prostitution.
Social media play a leading role in the study: 50 percent of "customers" or perpetrators use social media and the Internet to appeal to children for sexual favors.

I visited St. Denis back in the 80’s or early 90’s. It has an interesting early Gothic cathedral where many French kings are buried. The neighborhood was a little sketchy then. God only knows what’s it’s like now.
The world would be a much better place (and the population problem would be eliminated) if capital punishment were used appropriately.
