It really is stunning how cruel some can be.
Years ago I was talking with my new boss at my first “real” job after college. She saw a picture of my youngest brother on my desk and I briefly explained that he was adopted and the difficulty of his Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. She replied, “And that’s why I believe in a woman’s right to choose.”
I think the stunned look on my face made her realize that she had just told me the world would be better off if my brother were dead. She quickly began going over my duties and responsibilities.
I think I would have walked out right then and there.
My Sunday school teacher has a son that has Down’s syndrome; I asked him how he would respond if some total stranger were to walk up to him and mouth off about his son.
He thought a moment and said, “I would let them say their piece and then very politely yet very firmly inform them just how completely stupid they are.”
