Great post - Bookmarked...
This type of study will become common with AI in the futures where billions of bits of information can be processed across broad areas...
My cardiologist still seems to think my cholesterol numbers matter almost than any other data points from the blood tests I have done.
.....
Theyll die off and let a new generation reevaluate the evidence...
Who’d have thought it? Pass the cream.
An interesting study taking the total health and longevity picture into account instead of just death by atherosclerosis. It merits more of my attention.
Cardiologists are obsessive about cholesterol. Mine has been hovering at 200 or slightly more for as long as it has been measured from my mid-20s. I’m well into my 7th decade now. My HDL / LDL raito has always been in the upper decile to the good side. As I get older it gets a little worse. All my labs for at least 40 years are in my own data base. You can’t rely on medical records to keep up with this stuff. We just eat what I was taught as healthy, don’t drink, smoke or anything to excess most of the time. Lots of stuff from our garden when it is in season.
Drugs can work miracles. Doctors have to fix things they are told to believe are wrong. The process that combines the two is a hammer in search of a nail first.
In my late 50s a cardiologist was convinced beyond shadow of doubt I was badly clogged and had the stents ready prior to the angiogram. In my drug induced fog I heard him say, “huh?” several times and then tell the nurses, “this guy has the arteries of a 20 year-old, we’re through here.” The video of my procedure is really interesting to watch.
Your future and end are written. A lot of the story is in your genes. My 92 year-old mother takes zero maintenance medicine though she has lost her mind.
Interesting. BTW anyone know why my left arm hurts after eating a dish of ice cream....?
Because those 5 gallon tubs of ice cream are heavy. Scoop it into a bowl, silly.
Cholesterol is a component of testosterone, along with DHEA. Low T is the source of much age related malady.
I realize I am late to the party on this thread, but I just got back my test results from lab work yesterday. My cholesterol is high, higher than the recommended level, but my triglycerides are wayyyy below what they say is ok. I didnt prepare for this in any unusual way. Your comment on triglycerides piqued my interest. Is there anything you can tell me that would help me understand better? Feel free to private message me if that suits you. Same for anyone else.
Some background. A couple of years ago, my doctor suggested I lose some weight because I was pre-diabetic and my father had diabetes-type 2. So I worked hard and lost 50 lbs in about 15-16 months. It wasnt easy. I have regressed some, and have put back on 10 of those pounds, but am steady again. This current blood work has my cholesterol levels at the same as I was 2 years ago before I lost those 40-50 pounds. (Im almost 60, 135 lbs, female). I think I eat a healthy but moderate diet. A little bit of everything, some red meat, mostly chicken, some fish, lots of vegetables, especially green, but every color. I eat eggs every couple of days, though not fried. I dont smoke, but enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail with dinner nearly every night. I exercise lightly almost every day, and moderately a couple of times a week. I hate taking medicine if I dont absolutely have to.
